Can Jason Nolf Beat Kyle Dake?

yes-danielbryan.gif

Yes.

Then again eventually Kyle "Benjamin Button" Dake will be at a lower weight class if not back in diapers.

It's admittedly an imperfect comparison, but, aesthetically, Kyle Dake is like the John Shaffer (1 loss as a starter in high school or college) or Chuck Burkhart (22-0 at Penn State) of wrestling.

I'd root for Nolf here even if he were not a Penn State alum.

I hope bringing Dake to the NLWC was a bigger bet-positive for Nolf than for Dake. I’m assuming it was all part of the coaches’ plan to bring him in so they could get the best scouting report ever for Nolf’s ‘24 Olympics run

Hell, JB and Dake are STILL dukin it out.
Before Al's internet. I would ask anyone who mentioned Hagler as being their favorite fighter, one? Who Hagler lost to and what was their Nickname? No one ever got the 1st part.

That’s my favorite fight ever. I loved watching Sugar Ray Leonard and that fight was so much fun and was as close as it can get. All time great fight
Sugar Ray most under rated fighter ever.
Beat Hitman at 147lbs. Incredible.

Swear I’m not cheating - he lost to at least one Philly club fighter early in his career - Bobby “Bugaloo” Watts. May have either lost or drawn a 2nd against a Philly guy early in his career.

Loved Hagler.

Just looked and forgot the other guy was Willie “the Worm” Monroe:

“face him in his early years. Joe Frazier told Hagler, "You have three strikes against you, "You're black, you're a southpaw, and you're good."[20] He often had to travel to his opponents' hometowns to get fights. His first break came when he was offered—on two weeks' notice—a chance against Willie 'The Worm' Monroe, who was being trained by Frazier. Hagler lost the decision but the fight was close, so Monroe gave him a rematch. This time Hagler knocked out Monroe in twelve rounds. In a third fight, he defeated Monroe in two rounds.

Boston promoter Rip Valenti took an interest in Hagler and began bringing in top ranked opponents for Hagler to face. He fought 1972 Olympic gold medalist Sugar Ray Seales; Hagler won the first time, the second was a draw and Hagler knocked Seales out in the third fight. Number one ranked Mike Colbert was knocked out in the twelfth and also had his jaw broken by Hagler. Briton Kevin Finnegan was stopped in eight and required 40 facial stitches.[21] He dropped a controversial decision to Bobby 'Boogaloo' Watts preceding those victories, but knocked Watts out in two rounds in a rematch. Hagler won a ten-round decision over 'Bad' Bennie Briscoe, which ultimately concluded his Spectrum expedition. By then, promoter Bob Arum took notice and signed him.”

Hagler was my all time favorite.

He lost to Sugar Ray Leonard for four reasons. Agreed to different weighted gloves, agreed to less rounds, agreed to a bigger ring and finally showed too much respect early on with good guys.

Leonard was a runner.

MMH was my favorite and hated to see him go out on that match.

His match with Hearns was amazing. Sad he is gone.

So is Spencer Lee the boxing version of Floyd Mayweather Jr? Both of their fan bases are delusional thinking they are the greatest. Both are good at ducking the tough matches. Both have dads who like talking to the media. Both have choked on the big stage. Floyd at the Olympics, and Lee at PIAA States his senior year and as a senior at NCAA's.

Mayweather was NOT truly undefeated. Floyd clearly lost to Jose Luis Castillo in their first fight. An absolute gift to the "money" fighter and just another rigged decision in boxing.

Duran would have run PBF out of the ring, Leonard would have overwhelmed PBF and stopped him late, and Hearns would have knocked PBF out cold. Hagler was too big as a middleweight for PBF, where the other three fought down at lightweight or welterweight like Floyd.

Hagler was all class and a true fighter. That said Leonard beat Hagler that night. Marvin was dumb fighting the conventional way the first two rounds while giving them away. He then switched to his normal southpaw stance the 3rd round. Ray was just the better man that night.

Hagler-Hearns is the greatest three round fight of all time.

Ray Leonard was not a "runner"!!! Lol. You clearly do not know boxing or Ray by saying something like that. Ray was an amazing boxer/puncher who was very flashy and showed great heart and skills. My gosh watch his war with Duran in their first fight, then he outboxed him in the rematch and made him quit. Stopped Hearns real late in their first fight. A few highlight reel KO's.

Sugar Ray got all the press cause he won the Olympic gold medal. That's how boxing has always worked. Those guys get the big bucks and promotions to start off their careers as professionals. Guys like Oscar, Whitaker, Reid, Ward, and Taylor to name a few others are examples of how winning a gold medal can be a big help to start your career and get you a ton of well-earned publicity.

You're absolutely correct about the first 2 rounds. I really need to rewatch it, from my perhaps flawed and biased memories, Sugar Ray did a lot of dancing around from the 3rd round on and Hagler was always pushing forward.

And yes, I forgot about the Olympic gold. That was definitely a factor for Sugar Ray getting a lot of positive notoriety.

I absolutely loved Sweet Pea Whitaker. Never seen a boxer as smooth as him. His defense was on another level

Gimme Gypsy Joe Harris … another famous Philly fighter. Unknown to the officials, he was blind in one eye (from a brick fight). He was undefeated until Emile Griffith beat him. During the post fight examination, a doctor discovered that he was blind. My favorite Gypsy Joe quote: “I don’t make plans. I just fight”.

So reading through this thread, is Jason boxing Dake or are they gonna wrestle?

Loved watching that 76 Olympic boxing team going into my Senior year of high-school. Louis Curtis, Leo Randolph, Charles Mooney, Davey Lee Armstrong, Howard Davis, Ray Leonard, Clint Jackson, Charles Walker Jr, Michael Spinks, Leon Spinks and John Tate.

As stated in another post, I see some similarities between the careers of Spencer and Mike Tyson. Once thought unbeatable, punishingly dominant, sowed fear in the eyes of their opponents, and glanced at the path to best ever status. Once proved mere mortals the whole image that had been crafted had nowhere to go. Both remain historically great, but for a time each enjoyed the mystique of mass perception of the greatest.

PS - what does this have to do with Jason Nolf. Yes, he can and will beat Dake, it's just a matter of when, this may be the year.

This is funny for two reasons.
1. the Olympics are not the big stage that Floyd fought on lol.
2. his Olympics loss is considered one of the most outright corrupt decisions in Olympic history and one that led directly to rule changes.

Floyd isn’t the greatest, but he has every right to think he is, as he got his hand raised every time he entered the ring is a professional.

I am not much of a boxing fan but what I can say is Sugar Ray Leonard was as fast of a puncher as I have ever seen. I watched a short clip of him where in a 5-10 second span he threw so many punches I could not keep count of them. Boxers have my respect, though. I cannot imagine trying to make a living that way.
