It's the off-season so we have months to debate this!
First of all, we have some mandatory wrestle-offs at certain weights:
125:
USA/World:
125: Sanshiro Abe (Japan) vs. Jeff Prescott (New York)
(Prescott won at 118 so he may be undersized BUT he was a killing machine)
174: Mark Hall (Minnesota) vs. Matt Brown (Utah)
PA:
125: Jim Martin (Danville) vs. Nico Megaludis (Murrysville)
165: Andy Matter (Upper Darby) vs. Vincenzo Joseph (Pittsburgh)
197: Phil Davis (Harrisburg) vs. Quentin Wright (Bald Eagle Area)
125: Abe or Prescott
133: Roman Bravo-Young (Arizona)
141: Nick Lee (Indiana)
149: Frank Molinaro (New Jersey)
157: David Taylor (Ohio)
165: Mitchell Mesenbrink (Wisconsin)
174: Hall or Brown
184: Bo Nickal (Texas)
197: Aaron Brooks (Maryland)
285: Nick Nevills (California)
125: Martin or Megaludis
133: Scott Lynch (Mifflinburg)
141: John Hughes (Benton)
149: Zain Retherford (Benton)
157: Jason Nolf (Kittanning)
165: Matter or Joseph
174: Carter Starocci (Erie)
184: Ed Ruth (Harrisburg)
197: Davis or Wright
285: Pat Cummins (Doylestown)
Note on heavyweight: Penn State has never had a national champ heavyweight from Pennsylvania. Clearly, this is one of the last omissions in PSU wrestling history we need to correct. In 2 AA finishes, Cummins finished 4th and 2nd; Nevills finished 5th and 7th. I decided these are comparable enough for an even match. That said, if you want to convince me to make this Cassar/Kerkvliet vs. McCoy instead, I'm fine with that. Can we claim Cassar as honorary Pennsylvanian? I really love Cassar.
For 157, let's assume this is a young Taylor and a young Nolf, not full grown versions of either.
So, who wins the wrestle-offs? And who wins the dual meet?
