Can Mitchell Mesenbrink Win an NCAA Title This Year? - My Answer is Yes!!!

Messsinbrink and O'toole are from the same kid's club, correct? Askren's AWA. They are probably pretyfamiliar with each other. Should be interesting. I would like to get Askren's take on the 2 of them.

I have been waiting for some time for a few little tidbits on just that. Askren giving an assessment contrast & compare of their skill sets and a hypothetical matchup. Mitchell commenting on their obvious training sessions together...... but nothing, not a word from anyone yet.

Given their relative ages and a size advantage over the past couple of years, I wouldn't be surprised if Kegan has taken him to the woodshed much of the time. That said Mitchell's trajectory straight up, and if nothing else he is closing the gap significantly.

I'm not qualified to make big predictions but they attended the same club, same high school and KOT was coached by Ben and had plenty of help from MM's dad John. KOT helped plenty in bringing MM to where he is today. Ben loves both of these kids a great deal, and with good reason as people and wrestlers. I can tell you that Nate Carr is very aware of MM and the trouble he offers. I haven't went as far as predicting MM to beat David or KOT but having watched all three plenty it would surprise few that know them. I think David would win a 6-4 type match today but be forced to fight off too many attacks for comfort. KOT would need to win a scramble or two as his baseline defense is about his only hole at this point. Throw in the PSU Friday/Saturday magic and I would never say never. Think Jason Nolf. I watched him workout three years ago and again lst Spring and he is something beyond special. Ben has said as much many times. Ben describes him in two words Coachable and relentless. Not bad.

I think KOT and Carr are a bridge too far (right now, with no Folk matches in a PSU singlet).

But, if he takes his OLY RS, Carr will be gone and I think he’d have a VERY good chance of taking out O’Toole. Right now, I think he’d give up some strength to both of them. A year of working with Casey, Zain, Nolf and Dake, and maybe going to Paris as a practice partner for someone? Carter and AB both made huge strides after going to Tokyo.

I met MM this afternoon during the open practice. He’s a very personable guy, and was very enthusiastic and engaged during dodgeball and practice. He’s having a ton of fun, and was very impressive in the room during some drills and play wrestling.

I spoke with Coach Casey at the social afterwards and he indicated that Mitch struggled initially with how good everyone is in the PSU room, but Casey told him that the best people he will face this year are his team mates. After MM won U20 worlds last week, Casey reminded him of that conversation. I think that provides some perspective on just how good his training partners are.

That being said, I think MM will be a very special wrestler who will win multiple titles at all levels. Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a wild ride 😉

If he gets to the legs of O'Toole/Carr as easily as he did that Iranian kid he's going to win in this season.

LOL. He won't.

He would be undersized wrestling O'Toole and Carr. O'Toole is going 174 next year (please please come back Starocci)

But he has a gas tank from hell. he's going to give everyone fits if his positioning doesn't get him pinned.

Oh wow, that's the first I've heard O'Toole going to 174. That would be an epic match with CStar.

Source? Would be drastic mistake.

KOT is huge. The weight pull is a challenge. Carr is not facing a tough weight pull which he was facing at 157. MM is probably around Carr's size. Askren said on FRL when ask about the chances of AWA guys being good enough to earn a trophy level point production this upcoming season that KOT,Parker, and MM should be all be good for 20 or so and PM 10-12. Ben thinks he can compete but what would he know about the level difference between KOT and MM? He has only wrestled both for hundreds of hours and watched them scrap with each other a few hundred more.

KOT is very much wanting to move to 174 according to Ben multiple times because he doesn't like cutting all of the weight. I think Carter would be too much for him but KOT isn't scared of tough opponents and probably believes he could win. Mocco is a close friend and wrestles 174 so he will wait one more year.

So you're taking the bet?
I don't bet.

If I did, I would not take that bet, just as likely that MM takes an Olympic redshirt. Besides that, it would be betting on a guy who has yet to wrestle an attached folkstyle match.

If I did bet, I would lay a $100 that MM wins multiple national championships.

I would consider betting money (if I did bet) that MM wins as many individual national championships over the his career as Iowa guys do in that same time period.

Excuse my ignorance but which wrestler is PM?

Who do you see from Iowa winning titles in the next 4 to 5? Just curious...
With the transfer portal/Nil/gambling suspensions/injuries/gunshots etc. I don't project past today. That's Fair right?!

I will say the Ferrari kid and Kueter have a chance at it. Woods this year. Maybe Ayala in a couple years. Only time will tell.

Woods is the only hope for Iowa. Kueter will be concentrating on football and only be a part time wrestler if he wrestles at all. Ayala is no Nate Jesuroga so long shot there. AJ Ferrari is done with college wrestling and Angelo will probably decommit after he sees his brother Anthony as a backup. Tough road ahead for the Hawkeyes.

I got a chance to meet him. He is a really good person. He is soft spoken and a killer. Reminds me of Zain Train

Ayala was a better prospect than Jesuroga IMO. Never got why he wasn't #1 on the 2021 big board. Paddy and Facundo being 1/2 in that class says a lot to be honest. Wasn't a super deep class overall. He's insanely quick, has a great frame to add strength and an unlimited gas tank. People forget before his shoulder injury he was easily beating most of the good college 125s thrown his way.

The issue is he has had two labrum surgeries and his wrestling attacks really utilize his arms and he's definitely missed a bit of practice time to learn new leg attacks. We saw what that did to Howard. If he never got hurt and was developing, I think most would be talking about him as the favorite next year. Now it's a big unknown.

Look at you with all the answers of the future. It's amazing you can do that!

I think Ayala was a better prospect than Jesuroga also. Let's see how his career pans out, but he was a ton coming out of high school.

Woods has to be considered the favorite at 141 with Alirez taking an Olympic shirt.

After that, who knows. The Ferraris are definitely title threats, also threats to implode.
How has woods fared against Lee?

141 runs thru PSU IMO

I get your joke but it doesn't apply to anything I said here. 4/10. You are a better poster than that.
Aaah - the old “you are better than that” reply. I had a boss once who used that on me and I had the good sense to tell him to keep his sanctimonious “opinions” to himself or with his fellow drones in HR. I’d say the same to you!

Perhaps your boss was correct. Where I work I am the boss. I'd have a response ready for you if you told me where to keep my opinion.
