Can someone explain why Chase Meyer is not our starting kicker?

The 2 last year were hardly shanks. They were close misses just outside the right goalpost. Both were hit solid.
Both were hooked. He has an issue with his technique and that's not something that gets fixed in-season. See: Gould, Robbie, and Ficken, Sam.

This means there's hope, but if he misses tomorrow there will be no excuses. The rain is supposed to stop pre-kickoff.

FG kicking can be similar to pitching. A pitcher might be able to throw hard and have a variety of piches but if he has terrible location, he won't last. A FG kicker might strike the ball hard and even from a long distant but if the accuracy/consitency is lacking it is of no benefit to the team.
Fixed it for you.

The concerns don't come from one miss, they come from the near misses on the extra points and the degree of the miss on the field goal which was hooked badly. A close miss would have been better. You don't take chances with your kicker. This is big time football and you have three kickers on the roster, actually 4, who are competing for the job. The way it works is if he doesn't show better results, he's on the sideline. But hey I am sorry Mrs Sahaydak, I hope your son improves 😂
Hey I missed the game, I was purse shopping! How'd my kid do? Mrs. S

2 for 2 from 28 and 43. Both were clutch and both were needed. He took a step forward and established himself as the #1. For now...
That was the best thing to come out of that game. If you read one of my earlier posts in this thread, I stated that I actually wanted to see him have try a few fgs in this game. Not only did he have to try a couple, but he made them both and they were meaningful kicks, so he definitely took a step forward. From what I see, he has a strong leg.

Well after he was trashed after one miss I'm glad to see you acknowledge he took a step forward. However, the "for now..." tells me one miss and the "get a new kicker" will start all over.

Nobody trashed him. They called it exactly as it was. He took a huge step forward last week and I called THAT exactly as it was also. He's our kicker. "For now", means the same thing it means for everyone in the world of elite top 20 big boy football: The position comes with more of a leash than others due to its own limited chances and elevated importance.

He looked damn good last week and his mechanics were cleaned up. I think I would also give him a shot a kick offs because we ALSO had a MAJOR screw up there in the 4th quarter when 99 shanked it out of bounds and gave BG 15 free yards in a critical situation.

He didn’t kick that last XP it was the freshman Barker FWIW. Didn’t look a whole lot better with that attempt

It looked good awful and just like I said before about Sahaydak, trust what you see.

Meyer was portaled here for a reason and he needs to be the kicker starting right damn now, not in 2 weeks.

As I said...FOR NOW.

NOW is over. For good. Meyer is the kicker next week. Barker looked awful too.

As a soccer player, I always loved how Gary Anderson kicked - he was like a metronome and always hit it just hard enough to make it - caring more about location than power.

Except that time when he missed the biggest kick of his life and it cost the Vikings a spot in the Super Bowl.

The best kickers make the most important kicks. Vinitieri proved that.

Yeah I figured someone would bring that up - it was truly shocking because he was so good for so long

From inside 40--100%
My guess is the concern the staff has it anything deeper so they were trying to go with the guy that has the stronger leg
Meyer would be my kicker but I'm just saying why the staff may have gone in another direction
I remember one of the Bahr brothers lasting years in the NFL because he never missed from 40 yards or closer. I think it’s a luxury to know if you get to or inside the 23 yard line your FG kicker will connect. Sahayak’s misses were from 40 and 41 yards last night. He is going to cost the team a game this year if they keep sending him out there. I don’t like to rip a kid trying his best but as one of the other posters said he has demonstrated in his 3rd year the moment is too big for him.
