CBS ends talks with SEC

The tv money might be better, but the loss of a designated spokes network might prove more beneficial to the other conferences. I watched a few SEC games this year, and CBS would convince you that a mid-tier SEC team could compete in the NFL.
Disney owns both ABC and ESPN. Disney also owns Lucasfilm, so there's a good chance that there will be a Nick Saban Jedi Knight film soon.

I agree. The 3:30 broadcast with Danielson was a big time SEC infomercial. Greatest this... greatest that... greatest this... best this... best that....

SEC will make $250M-$300M more per year...

This seems wrong on so many levels. Absolutely ruining college football. Whats next? Coaches making $20M/year?

But this also shows what a poor job Delaney has actually done.

The SEC has grown ans increased revenues at a much more rapid pace than the Big.

Why? Well they cheat for their best teams each year. Not just for their favorite teams.

Disney does terrible job with ACCN and SECN. Also, hard to believe those inbred rednecks in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, etc. can afford premium cable.

Um...all I can say is, here in Atlanta, I see an awful lot of nice cars and SUVs with Georgia, Tennnessee, Auburn, and especially these days, Alabama stuff on them. You know, stickers, license plate holders, flags, whatnot. Don't get too hung up on stereotypes. There are SEC alums I know and work with that make a very good living. Many of them are sending their kids to their alma mater.

ACC coverage isn't the greatest, but SEC Network is included in basic cable here in the South as it's "in-market" like BTN.

I live in Nashville and take complete offense to your post. Trust me, there are as many "rednecks" in Central PA if not more than live here. And, I was born and raised in Central PA.

CBS is simply clearing the deck for when Texas and Oklahoma join the Big Ten. Then the network will get back into the game.

Or not. Who knows anymore???

Not exactly. CBS will be out of the college football market until Disney and Fox have decided that they've lost enough money on it.

About 30 years ago, I had an office job and our photocopier repair man was a guy who moved from Tennessee to Tyrone, PA. He was a nice guy and always did a great job. Some people in the office teased him about being from Tennessee with the insinuation that he was a redneck. Part of it was his dialect. The banter was always good-natured but one day he responded - I'll never forget the way he said it - "You guys think I'm a redneck? Let me tell ya'll something. I've seen more Stars and Bars in Tyrone than I ever saw in any place I lived in Tennessee." He said some other stuff that I don't remember quite as well. His point was that Tyrone was the most redneck place he'd ever lived. Cracked me up.

Centre County is the HQ for all things rural. Going up from Philly past Lewistown I kept thinking I had seen these homesteads in "The Hills Have Eyes", except the residents were much better looking ;)

The world has gone too soft if we can’t have a little fun with these stereotypes.
All you need to know is the lead scroll last night on ESPN was about the Navy "investigation" of the cadets "motivations" on Saturday.

Good. It should be a main story. Racism is unacceptable, and having our military proudly showing it in national tv is an embarrassment. Despite what our board racists say.

I was about to say the same thing about the Bald Eagle area right outside state college. Confederate flag all over the place. You see more of it here than driving through the small towns on the “back way” to the OBX.

Wow, elitist much?

And it's not confined only to rural areas in the North. Consider Boston for instance. One of the more racist cities in the U.S.

Un, it wasn't racism. Fact. Quit listening to MSM fabricated stories. Was it racist when about 15 black female USMC cadets posed giving the raised fist sign under raised swords? I believe young people who attend the U.S. military academies are trying their very best to live honorable lives, no matter their ethnicity. The pressures @ the academies are tremendous and I admire those who make it through. I am not going to be complaining about young people who were playing a silly teenage game. They were reprimanded for their immature behavior @ the game.

My friend in Alabama just sold the aerospace company he founded for 1.6 Billion. So they don’t all fit the stereotype.

I am waiting for CBS to make the B12/PAC12 an offer they can't refuse..." OU/UT/TT/OSU, you are going to the P12 and PAC12, you are going to like it."

No that farfetched. Almost happened in 2010.

What could cause it in the not too distant future is Disney (SEC) and Fox (Big Ten) becoming single-conference centric, providing a financial opportunity for an interloper to engineer and Pac 12/Big 12 combination.

ESPN (and ABC) will do the same thing. It's probably worse on those because so many channels that broadcast games (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 ESPN-U, ESPN+ and maybe more) are owned by one company. They're CONSTANTLY cross-promoting games.

Watching a game on ESPN is an unpleasant experience for me because of the constant in-game, sometimes in-play ads for other games and other programming on their networks.

I know. Nonsensical bigoted comment. Hottest regional economy for last 2 decades plus and massive net positive migration, unlike B10 foot print. People are trained to think certain ways and repeat I guess.

If the ACC network would not have started this year I think this would be a good deal for them. CBS used to do alot of Big East games back in the 90s and most of those teams are in the ACC now. Plus CBS is based out of New York.
