Ok folks:

Starting yesterday and out of the blue, my cell phone battery starts going down/draining at a very quick pace.

Within 10 minute's or so, it is losing about 10% of it's battery charged life. Why?

What happened? What did I do?

The battery/phone is a "7" AT&T is my carrier. Abut 2 1/2 years old I'd say.

Is it just time for a new battery?

Did something accidently get switched "on" to start making this happen?

As I type, I am watching it go down about 1% every 3 minute's. I have been in high drainage areas before and noticed this. Did AT&T do something with the satellite?

Help needed and thank you in advance.

Lay off the porn.

go to the apple store and get a new battery

end of April I did it. cost me $29.00 at the store in Delaware, took about an hour total

battery works great now
Agreed...Apple got hit with a class action lawsuit on their phone batteries. Basically, after two years, they became inefficient. Many believe this was done on purpose to move customers up. Apple agreed to upgrade the batteries for cheap, as you suggest.

In addition, simply google how to save battery on an iPhone 7 and you will get ton of advice. you can turn off a lot of services you may not use like bluetooth, wifi, GPS, and many more.

also, if you are using a charger or charging cord that is NOT Apple certified, do not use them to charge the battery over night

they are are fine to use for a quick charge to get additional juice, but when the battery hits 100%, those cords/chargers do not shut down. they continue to attempt charging the battery, this will damage the battery

As mentioned above, this is a known issue with the I-Phone 7 and Apple is providing warranty replacements for the battery for $29. I have an appointment at the Apple store later today to replace the battery on my daughter's phone.

In my experience, you do need to schedule a visit due to battery inventory issues. They ordered and contacted me with a date.

I've noticed a significant change in how quickly my iPhone battery drains as well. I heard that it's related to a recent software update of some kind. Someone told me last week that Apple would give you a new battery. I've not checked into this, however. I need to do something. Even with minimal use it is dead in a day, and when I do use it it is gone in hours.

Exactly!!

Keep me posted sir.

Put it in the microwave, on medium for about 15 seconds and this will realign the lithium ions & the battery will be like new.

Just kidding. DON'T DO THAT.

I got a new battery in my 6s a few months ago. Worked much better for a bit but now it is draining fast again. Its really frusterating! My phone will drain to about 60% sitting on my desk and being used infrequently to send texts.

I suspect it in part has something to do with the apples ios. I don’t want to spend $800 on a new iPhone that is virtually identical to mine. None of the new bells and whistles are that interesting to me

Doctoral dissertations have been written about battery life. Replacing a 2 1/2 year old battery should help. But there could be any one of 100 software issues that are causing the battery to drain on your phone. I guess you google the problem and try some of the suggestions.

Also, just FYI, remember the battery "meter" is just a very rough estimate based on readings the phone makes of the battery and the phone's knowledge of past electricity use. You need to think of it as a VERY rough estimate. 85% could actually be 95%, 70% could be 50%. That rough.

I've had phones that drop very quickly to 80% but then stabilize and stay charged all day. So a rapid drop when the battery is relatively full could be deceptive. At the other end of the scale I've had phones do pretty well until 30% but then drop very quickly to where automatic shutoff. To summarize, most phones really don't know with any precision how much battery life they have left.

You forgot the part about FIRST soaking it in boiling water for 30 seconds, then soaking it in ice water for 30 seconds. Or maybe it’s the ice water, then the boiling water.

I’ll check it out and get back.....in the meantime, JUST DON’T DO THAT!

I hear you on that. I'm still rockin' my 6s and don't want to put out the funds for something that's almost identical. And that's not just within Apple - I've looked at the Pixel 2, S9, OnePlus6 and all are pretty much the same phone. Only phone on the horizon thats noticeably different is the Galaxy X b/c it's supposedly going to be a foldable phone - only problem it's going to cost $1800+.

Everything was fine til I did the latest update (spoke with some ATT guys I know and all admit this latest update is a total mess). So yes, I am getting a new battery (because the batteries they were using were bad -- many said puurosely bad, which is why you are getting one installed at $29 and not the original price).

But the new update created an enormous drain on the system and I am curious whether simnply having a new battery is going to resolve that -- or just delay the discharge a bit longer. Judging from the face of the apple tech, i'm not expecting miracles until they fix the update.

Funny... I always wait before updating, but like a fool I updated when it came out and right before I went overseas on vacation. REALLY bad idea. Did update and went to bed fully charged at 3:00 am... woke at 8 and phone was dead. Swell. Only way to "use" my phone is to turn on things like ESPN for just a moment to check scores, then turn it completely off. That app drains the vein in about 15 minutes. I run in airplane mode much of the time... just awful tp ay $100/mo for what amounts to a useless phone.

my Iphone battery life started going to hell about a month ago. random days as well. some days really bad, most days bad but acceptable, and then some normal type days. strange.

If it just started then you should do a hard restart before you do anything else.

Close out all your apps (double tap home then swipe up on all the apps).

Once complete press and release the volume up then volume down then press and hold the lock button on the other side until the phone reboots - you’ll see the Apple logo.

Sometimes processes run away and don’t get managed properly. This usually cleans that up and your phone will behave properly afterwards. If after the hard restart your battery still dies quickly then visit an Apple store and have them check it.

Just got back from my appointment at the Apple Store in King of Prussia. As expected the battery failed the diagnostic. They replaced it for $29 and provide a 30 day warranty. My daughter is convinced they just gave her a new phone of the same model and color and used the online backup to reload her stuff. Makes no difference to me as long as it works.

I've done every fix they suggest... bottom line is my phone worked just fine til i did the update... and has not worked since.

I will get a new battery tomorrow and all it will do is extrend the life a bit... little more. I will be asking them to restore my ios to the previous edition... y'know, where it worked perfectly.

Apple is effectively becoming the new ms.. just throw updates at 'em and let them figure it out as guinea pigs. disgusted.

I will also be marking my phone with identifying codes and when i get it back, it better be the same fing phone.

Yep! I agree. They sabotaged it.

OMG i'm facing the same problem! And I just started to notice it like 3-4 days back and thought i was just losing my mind. It was working absolutely fine before that. The only problem for me is that.. if it costs you guys $29 to get the battery replaced, then it will surely cost me double or triple that to get it replaced where i live! :(

I encourage everybody to save your receipt. My thoughts down the road is that they will have to issue everybody a full refund.

Sorry just had to do that. I'm a Beck fan. LOL.
I have a 6s thats about 2.5-3 years old. It was fine until Apple started releasing
IOS updates every 3 days. Now the batter drains like crazy, even if I'm not doing anything on it.
This last update helped to stabilize it somewhat.
My boss got a new batter for his, 7s, and I think he said it was 30.00 bucks. Not sure if he did it online or not. But I can ask if you still are having issues.

+1. having the same type of issues. This last IOS update helped to stabilize the batter drain.

Just sharing this for the sake of sharing - not saying anything is fully believable but the next operating system - iOS 12 - should be better suited for phones from the 5s and onward. Will most likely be released in September.

"Part of the reason iOS 12 is able to support phones as old as the iPhone 5s is because of a software adjustment that ramps the phone up to its full performance potential as needed (e.g. when you're loading an app) and then brings it back down more quickly to preserve battery. "

So you admitted to being a "fool" and doing the update instead of waiting - but now you're upset at Apple for keeping their software up to date with patches yet giving their customers the choice of whether to update or not? And have some conspiracy theory about them switching phones on you?

You sir have earned this.
