CFP Playoff projections after week 9.........

That is according to ESPN. According to CBS, it is

Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State.

Either way, there is a lot of football to be played. We are NOT in a bad position, though, obviously we no longer control our own destiny.
I highly doubt that Georgia or Alabama are in if they lose, reason being, I doubt they would allow a rematch right after the Championship game.

Obviously though, if Clemson and Notre Dame go undefeated from this point out, we are in a tough spot.

Does ND play in the ACC Championship game? Or do they just play some ACC teams?

not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic...if serious, no, they don't play in the Championship game and yes, they only play 5 ACC games each year

If ND wins out, I would be stunned if they don't get in. Don't get me wrong, I would love it.

An ND snub would be a beautiful thing. The weeping and gnashing of teeth by the press may even get the playoff expanded in a hurry.

Here's a grouping of ranked teams by number of losses. AP/Coaches rank on the left. For all the 1-loss teams, I re-sorted teams by their margin of loss with an adjustment of +3 for visiting teams. I put Miami at the bottom of the undefeated teams since they had a narrow 1-point win at home. I left the 2-loss teams in their order of AP rank. Enjoy.

1 Alabama 8-0 (closest home win, 24-7 over Florida State)
2 Georgia 8-0 (closest home win, 31-10 over Appalachian State)
4 Wisconsin 8-0 (closest home win, 17-9 over Purdue)
15/14 UCF 7-0 (closest home win, 40-13 over Memphis)
9/6 Miami 7-0 (closest home win, 25-24 over Georgia Tech)

7 Penn State 7-1, lost by 1 @ Ohio State (7-1, #3/3)
6/5 Clemson 7-1, lost by 3 @ Syracuse (4-4, NR)
12/11 Washington 7-1, lost by 6 @ Arizona State (4-4, NR)
5/8 Notre Dame 7-1, lost by 1 at home to Georgia (8-0, #2/2)
10/12 TCU 7-1, lost by 7 @ Iowa State (6-2, #14/16)
NR/23 USF 7-1, lost by 4 at home to Houston (5-3, NR)
8/9 Oklahoma 7-1, lost by 7 at home to Iowa State (6-2, #14/16)
11/10 Oklahoma State 7-1, lost by 13 at home to TCU (7-1, #10/12)
13 Virginia Tech 7-1, lost by 14 at home to Clemson (7-1, #6/5)
3 Ohio State 7-1, lost by 15 at home to OKLA (7-1, #8/9)
22/21 Memphis 7-1, lost by 27 @ UCF (7-0, #15/14)

14/16 Iowa State 6-2
16/15 Auburn 6-2
17 USC 7-2
18 Stanford 6-2
19 LSU 6-2
20 NC State 6-2
21/22 Mississippi State 6-2
23/25 Arizona 6-2
24/NR Michigan State 6-2
25/NR Washington State 7-2
NR/24 Michigan 6-2

The only way that 3 P5 conferences get left out is if all 3 conference winners have 2 losses. Unless of course PSU wins out and ends up in the same situation that OSU was in last year. Even then I believe that PSU would have to win their remaining games very convincingly as the committee will not want a faltering down the stretch non conference winner in the PO. PSU for better or worse does not have the marquee non conference win that OSU had last year which I think in the end will be held against them. Having said all of that If ND is in then I doubt very highly that there will be 2 from the same conference.

We lost by one as did ND. Why are we left in the cold? I think ND will lose one more.

From your keyboard to God's ears on ND losing.

However as much as I hate ND if they win out their resume will run circles around PSU's

If the BIg 12 was forced to add a championship game to bolster their chances at getting into the playoff, ND should be forced to join a conference. They have had special rules for their bowl eligibility going back to the BCS. F them - join the ACC already or no CFP.

If you go by FPI and chances to win out you have...PSU, OSU, Clemson, Bama, ND...

on average you have about 5 P5 teams going undefeated to 1 loss each year. So, there you go...PSU, OSU, Clemson, and Bama are in.

I believe Wisconsin and OSU will win out, meet in the B1G Championship Game, and the winner will go the playoffs. PS had their shot, it's over now.
