If we’re going back then I’d go back even before that.Honestly, I would prefer to go back to college football 1994.
You liked the part about the best team in the country that year being denied the chance to play for the National Championship?Honestly, I would prefer to go back to college football 1994.
It's not really dying. They are making up bowl games on the fly to accommodate every eligible team because it's so profitable.wow, just wow. Anyone with a brain can see that college football is dying. Yet, the old boys club can’t see past their own interests to make a critical structural change.
Actually the vast majority of athletic departments are losing money on football, the bowls only stay afloat because ESPN foots the bill and both on campus attendance and TV viewership are off. A few football factors make massive money as do the power 5 conferences and ESPN. The sport is top heavy with maybe six or seven programs having a shot (PSU not being one of them). At the top the sport is rich but by 2026 it will be further hollowed out. Those getting paid are not seeing the big picture. It's not really dying. They are making up bowl games on the fly to accommodate every eligible team because it's so profitable.
Personally, I liked the part where the “national championship” was clearly not a real thing and the most important thing was just winning as many games as possible each year. You liked the part about the best team in the country that year being denied the chance to play for the National Championship?
I think the number and sheer interest of die hards - the folks that go to games, travel to bowls, go out of their way to watch games versus cupcakes to see the third stringer who might be a starter someday play, etc - is waning. That group isn’t growing and the pricing and hassle is getting worse.I cannot see it surviving
general interest in the sport has severely declined over the last 25 years. The bowl games are not even on major networks anymore..
if anyone doesnt think it can fail,
Just remember that pro boxing was once a major sport.
It seems to still be in the works and there were hints in the past year that the Big Ten (and probably the Pac-12 I would think) will drop to 8 conference games to allow for it. I am under the impression that it will start around 2024/25 timeframe based on the lead time to have the schedule space to make it work. Which would also correspond to when the SEC adds OU/UTI was a big fan of the upcoming alliance with the PAC12 and ACC to create compelling ooc games early in the season. That has potential to be very interesting - Oregon, USC, Utah, Miami, FSU, etc are all intriguing types of games. Even mid tier matchups like Arizona or Duke would be interesting. I have not heard anything about it lately. Is it actually going to materialize?
The goal is still to win as many games as possible. If you think otherwise, you are mistaken.Personally, I liked the part where the “national championship” was clearly not a real thing and the most important thing was just winning as many games as possible each year.
Now there’s still not a real National Championship but everyone acts like there is and all the attention of the sport is on the fake mini playoff instead of the awesome regular season. Yuck. 🤮
I do. Unless Tostitos is one of them, but I wouldn’t know because I don’t watch them. Lol.BOYCOTT ALL PLAYOFF GAMES and their sponsors.
Unless you believe the OSU AD who just said “nope”It seems to still be in the works and there were hints in the past year that the Big Ten (and probably the Pac-12 I would think) will drop to 8 conference games to allow for it. Oh, you mean when Nebraska was the best team in the nation????!!!!!!! TICHonestly, I would prefer to go back to college football 1994.
yeah I just saw that yesterday. It’s interesting since it conflicts with what the Iowa AD said just last month and Smith makes it sound like the Big Ten hasn’t considered an 8 game schedule for months. 🤷♂️Unless you believe the OSU AD who just said “nope”
