Does this NIT validate his time as Head Coach? Is this the level that is acceptable? RPI at 77 and NIT 4 seed. Extension and raise? Is this 10 year plan bogus? Virginia Tech and TCU have programs that at best traditionally equal to Penn State. Most would say worse. Jamie Dixon takes two years and Buzz Williams takes three years to accomplish more than Chambers. Should we be satisfied?

Thoughts?

There have been a thousand threads explaining why what's being built here has been the challenge it is, especially at the time Chambers arrived. You clearly made up your mind already, so I'm not sure why you pretend to have interest in others' thoughts.

Chambers has it rolling right now. I can't wait to see if he can translate this into recruiting upgrades. Hopefully,. Carr comes back and they keep it rolling next season.

definitely not...he should be detained as soon as they arrive back in State College and he should be caned ..you’re a douche

Wow, someone almost seems upset that Penn St won the NIT. Hmmm...

Oh well, this team could make some serious noise in the B1G and the NCAA next year if all the pieces remain in place. The vast majority of Penn St fans ought to be very happy with that thought.

The most amazing thing about last night was how Pat Chambers exponentially outcoached Tom Izzo. The way Izzo plays against the zone, there ain't NO WAY we win that game. Or even keep it close. Pat literally took Izzo to school last night in the way he coached against the zone.

Izzo's pros looked like a bunch of high school kids against FAR inferior talent when they played a bad Syracuse team. He had them scared sh!tless to shoot the ball. My view on Pat's on-court coaching ability grew by leaps and bounds last night. Especially when I compare it to that inexplicably pi$$ poorly coached Michigan State vs Syracuse game.

In short, if we had Izzo on the sideline last night, we lose. Does that answer your question?

I don't think this validates Chambers in that he'll now be on a list of candidates for prime coaching jobs, but I think it validates the slow progression of the program. Pat will get a modest extension, and then when/if he makes a deep run in the NCAA he can negotiate for more money.

Yes, has taken team with no potential to one that is climbin'. Those who believe a new coach would be better are misinformed.

Because that’s what we do here

Funny! I like your style.

Who said new coach needed. That guy would be an idiot.

My question was should we be satisfied. Then on demand all the idiots showed up.

I personally think extend him and lock him up. The players love that guy and play hard for him. That’s good enough for me if the program is a top 8 program in Big Ten.

"Funny", but true. Izzo choked big time against the zone. Izzo's game plan against it gave his exponentially more talented and deeper team absolutely no chance to win. Pat, on the other hand, attacked it like he should have, and tore it to smytherenes.

You really can’t compare the two coaches on how you perceive the job they did in one game. There’s been thread after thread beating Chambers for game day coaching decision. I think Izzo wins a beauty contest against Chambers. At least away from our site.

Chambers and his squad just won the last game of their season... in March.

How many other teams are going to be able to say they won the last game of their season in March (or April, as it turns out this year)?

Alright. I'll play along. How well will that sell to recruits. Is that something to brag about while in the living room.

A lot of coaches had trouble figuring out Syracuse's zone. So there's that for Chambers.

Carr's return is critical. We already lose Garner and Carr is our only other perimeter shooter. We'll lose both Carr and Watkins the following year so 2018-2019 has to be the year to make the NCAA tournament and get attention of prospects.

I think w/o Carr PSU could finish 7th in the BiG and miss the tournament. With Carr I think that PSU is preseason top 25 and top 3 in the BiG.

Cuse zone is epic. MSU zone is desperate answer to not being able to play man to man like they usually play.

Really! Top 25 preseason? There were only 4 teams in BigTen RPI Top 55 so Top 3 in league next year is doable for 6 or 7 teams I would think.

Im just saying, it sure beats a sharp stick in the eye, or going winless in the ACC.

Validation requires a certain level of performance over multiple years. The NIT title certainly earned him the right to continue as coach for a few more years.

Let's see what the team does next year, and more importantly the following 2 years w/o Carr & Watkins. Chambers will certainly be validated if he remains top half of the BiG those two years.

As fans we should never be "satisfied" with any thing less than a National Championship. That being said, we can appreciate the progress, effort and direction the program is heading. Maybe not as fast as some posters on here would like.

Not just next season. Lets see what he does between now and next season. BB is recruiting, like most college sports, but a player or two make a disproportionate difference as we have seen with Carr this year. Chambers must use the pub that he got from the NIT run and TV time to recruit another key player between now and next season.

Then, outside of wrestling and women's volleyball I guess we are pretty much an unsatisfied group.

My bad. Not exactly as I attended it to come across. Post was meant for those impatient and unrealistic posters that think championships are easy to attain.

btw love the new sig pic

I believe that PSU is already at their scholarship limit for next year unless somebody leaves (Carr?).

DZ could leave... and maybe Pierce. Not that I’ve heard anything, but these two don’t seem to have much of a role with the team going forward. I would welcome them both back for their senior year though.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if either or both got their degrees and moved on.

That would be wonderful for those kids if it happens. A lot of D1 basketball players don't ever graduate. Few graduate early.

The kid from tOSU, KBD, graduated early and is going into the draft this year. Not saying that it’s common, just the he’s one that I recall recently. Also, don’t most of the grad transfers graduate after three years (barring only redshirts)?

Chambers had a commit from a Center that made 4 recruits total for 2018, and the kid de-committed. So there must be a scholarship available for another player, even if Carr stays.

Bates Diop has been at OSU for four years and graduated a term early in December.

Don't know the percentage of grad transfers after three. Overall, the number of grad transfers who finish their advanced degrees is fewer than half.

Does anyone know the scholarship situation for Kyle McCloskey, the QB from Nova who transferred to PSU to play basketball? I have not read anywhere that says whether he’ll be a walk on or on scholarship
