Chance Marsteller just posted he is quitting wrestling.

Saying he is not so stellar of a D-1 wrestler is name calling? Man you guys need to get some thicker skin.
Calling him Chance Marnotsostellar is clearly name calling. You don't have to be Einstein to see that. Now if you had simply said his college wrestling didn't live up to expectations or something along those lines, I wouldn't have an issue with it.

I don't know anything about Chance really, other than he was a 4-time PA State Champ that was highly recruited.

Again, the kid's having a rough time. At least show some understanding of what he's going through instead of piling on while he's down. If you had a kid and ever watched him struggle, you would understand where I'm coming from and if you do have a kid...well then you're just a dick.

WildMan... what you're not getting is... that you're mocking his name to bring a kid... down at his lowest. This is the time to show you're above that... not below.

He knows what he did. He got busted and is trying to weasel out of it by turning it around on us (toughen up, get a thicker skin) -- which is merely doubling down on a-hole.

What El Jefe stated. You've been a spineless ass with this commenting ... but it's that time as a supposed adult where you actually grow a spine, use your cerebrum and join the human race.

Says the guy who called Ryan Morningstar Morningstall when he was wrestling on one leg at nationals? Gotcha

You're delusional. Grow a brain stem to connect to that spine. I didn't know who Ryan Morningstar was until he became a coach at Iowa. You're obviously running on one brain cell... Champ.

Just my values, not others...not a good idea to mess with anyone's name. See it a lot where someone thinks they're clever, but imo it's at the very least disrespectful, and in some cases hateful. Not talking nicknames (Gorilla Hulk, Magicman, Smack, the Truth, etc.).

Well damn...there goes my Cox/Johnson matchup commentary on this board.

I don't like what WT said at all, but does this mean you just started following college wrestling? Its fine if you did, just curious.

That's what I was thinking. Makes sense if true honestly. Amalone has missed out on a lot clearly.

Something in the tone of his tweet makes me wonder if he is going through a serious bout of depression. If that's possible, he needs to get some medical help. Like concussions, depression is not to be taken lightly.

I agree with this. One thing wrestlers suffer from is depression from cutting weight. It's is proven that long bouts of cutting large amounts of weight can cause this. I don't think Chance really has to cut weight much in high school, but he had to cut big time when he hit college.

Though the scale may say otherwise, Cael's Johnson doesn't seem as big as Smith's Cox.

Hat tip to you, good sir.

I think Edinboro would be a good fit for Chance. Home state, small school, great coaches, solid workout partners, and a blue collar spirit that may be exactly what Chance needs. They would also have a decent team over the next three years with Russell, Nagy, Lugo, Matthews, Marsteller, and Miller. Plus, he would be a big fish on campus, which would improve his confidence overnight. I think Coach Flynn could turn Chance into the star we all know he can be.

Plus, they are the reigning PA state champs, if we were going by tourney scores.

For the same reasons that some Italian-Americans disliked "The Sopranos"? They're afraid the movie casts all residents of South Canada in a bad light?
I'm Italian by marriage, and I only know one Italian who's as much as tepid about The Sopranos.

Then again, it's my mother in law, and this Homer Simpson line offended her because she didn't get the running joke that is his character -- in Season TWELVE of The Simpsons. (The Boss thought it was hilarious. Homer, that is. OK, also her mom.)

Sad deal. Hope Chance can get himself some help if that is what he needs.
Don't know what the problem is burned out, depressed, didn't like the weight cutting to me doesn't matter. Life goes on with out wrestling just get the help u need and do it for your self Chance. Find some peace of mind wish you the best .

Amalone started watching about six years ago, eh Bro? ;)
Nah... Brah. I started following wrestling when I was a kid... scholastic, collegiate and international wrestling... and there wasn't an internet to talk about it as much you Iowa guys do and the Gable days. ;) I'm a forward thinker... not a backwards one. You have to get up pretty early in the MORNING... to get one past this STAR. You guys are just not my kind of BRAND(S)... and I BANACH you back to the days you're forced to live in.

That's a heck of a match. It was interesting to see how aggressive the referee was in forcing the action. It also reminds me how much Nationals has changed since then. In 1981, we drove from Manhattan to Jadwin Gym at Princeton and bought tickets for the finals at the door from the box office.

I'll second that, WildTurk! I'm glad I didn't have the technology in place for me to air any knee jerk thought I had as a youngster. Not saying Chance's tweet was a knee jerk, it sounds more like the result of some heavy thought, but I think Twitter is more harm than benefit for most kids. Gosh I sound old. I'm going to go eat soup and yell at kids in my yard now.

Too funny!

On the flip side, I thought the ref was calling out of bounds extremely early. Really cool match and good to see both wrestlers willing to go for broke.

Yes. The rules were much different then. I forget exactly what the rule was, but dim recollection is that two points combined between the two wrestlers was considered out of bounds. Interestingly, from my recollection as a wrestler and a spectator, there was less wrestling at the edge of the mat then.
