Chance to Lock Haven

Interesting turn of events. Lock Haven now has two 4-time PIAA undefeated champs. Don't they wrestle Penn State in the fall?

Haines and Chance will at least put some interest into the LHU match.
Hopefully both do well.

I home things work out for Chance both on the mat and in the classroom. I also hope that both Chance & Haines help to get Lock Haven back to being relevant once again on the wrestling scene.

From watching Haines at the NLO this past season, I don't think he will give Nevills a serious challenge. Haines was struggling with the third-string Rutgers hwt on the mat just in front of us. It was pretty shocking.

Hard to gauge wrestlers on one bout, especially heavyweights...some wanting to just dance around...but I get what you're saying, as I saw it too. Haines ended up winning 9-4, then beat Black (Illinois) later in the season 3-2. I think Haines will be fine, and may give Nick more of a challenge than you suggest...wait and see, I guess.

Agree Roar. Let's not forget he was coming back from a season ending injury that prevented him from wrestling any matches his first year. I'm sure working with Snyder/Tav for a season made him a lot better as the year went on. The Black win a couple months later would seem to indicate that. Would still bet on a healthy Nevills though.

From what I hear about Haines, OSU didn't really go after him. I was hoping he was coming our way. John has money, need to go shopping. We need a new Ferrari!

It'd be kinda hilarious if he wound up going 157 for LH.

Good luck to Chance though, I hope this works out for him.

Chance will wrestle at 165lbs. Really proud of Scott and what he has done with that program. This makes the "Backyard Brawl" a lot more entertaining from both sides. Don't forget they also got a transfer from Patrick Duggan (149lbs) from WVU and have signed HS Senior Tyshawn White (125lbs).

you certainly need a heavyweight. Any transfers likely at heavy for you guys, or are you still at the hopeful rumor stage?

Damn!! That will be a fun dual meet.

That's right I was the one and I wasn't dismissed. Maybe people will believe me when I tell them news.
Fun fact: if we un-scramble the letters in "Crusher1950", they will spell "Cassandra". (I haven't tested it, yet, but I think it's true.)

This was likely a case of geography. The family will get to see him wrestle a lot more than if he attended a mid-west school.

Just my opinion, but if Chance and Haines stuck with their commitments to PSU, both would have most likely been starters last year at 165 and HWT respectively.

Wonder if he will go up against Rodgers from Oklahoma State this year? Would be an interesting matchup. I say Chance would beat him.

Yes. I also wonder if they had stayed, who else would not be a Lion now. Any insights into where that $$$$ went?

Looking forward to seeing Chance back on the mat but trying to figure out how PSU wasn't far enough from home but Lock Haven is ... kinda surprised he didn't end up at Campbell.

I only caught one of his bouts last season but I thought he looked solid against Brooks Black from Illinois.

Listen to the lyrics of the Bob Seger song "Hollywood Nights" for a clue...

..."He was too far from home..."

I thought this was a very honest self-appraisal from Chance:

"There was no energy," he said of trying to wrestle down a few weight classes. "My abilities were lackluster because I didn't have that fire in my gut anymore, I was cutting so much weight. The focus was on cutting weight rather than wrestling. It takes over after a while, not just your body but your mind. It's tough after so long ...

"I knew (wrestling at 157 pounds) would be tough for me, that was one thing. But I let the weight-cut beat me. I'm mentally tough and I believe I could do it, but it becomes a weight on your shoulders. It affects your performance."

Should put Rasheeds weight cut into perspective a little for those that didn't get it last season.

When I was coaching at the junior high level, I would not let my kids cut weight. If they asked why, I told them weight wasn't what they should be worried about - they should be focused on becoming the best wrestler they could be (and growing as they were meant to). If they did that, the rest would take care of itself.

I think one of the reasons Penn State has been so good under Cael is that the wrestlers, in general, don't seem to be cutting a lot of weight and are more fresh come tournament time. That also made Rasheed's cut this past season very puzzling, as it went against the grain.
