James Franklin held his pre-spring practice press conference yesterday afternoon. We learned about several position changes and the fact Coach Franklin is thrilled going into spring practice to have a 2-deep situation on the offensive line filled with scholarship players. If the offensive line stays healthy and Paris Palmer can win the starting job at LT, Penn State could enter preseason practice with starting offensive line that averages 6-4 1/2, 313 pounds per man that could physically dominate the line of scrimmage.
On defense we learned that Penn State's defensive line has a "dancing bear" in DT Austin Johnson, who tips the scales at 6-4, 327 and a lighting fast partner at DT in Anthony Zettel who stands 6-4, 280. Sr. Jordan Lucas [6-0, 201] takes over Adrian Amos position at FS and sophomores-to-be Grant Haley [5-9, 185] and Christian Campbell [6-2, 192] are the future at CB this fall and beyond.
That plus the fact Penn State could have a 6-1, 252 MLB in Jason Cabinda, who reportedly runs consistent 4.6 40-yard times. With spring practice starting this Friday [March 20], it is time to talk some Penn State football.
Let's do that starting at 1 PM this afternoon.
