So the past few weeks have kinda sucked, I don't think anybody can really deny that. After OSU and MSU I questioned whether there was any reason to continue this segment. Like Simba, we have felt pain and run from our problems in hopes of avoiding hard truths. ButI was inspired by James Franklin and the players who gave interviews this week and basically talked about "getting back to what works for us" and not letting the losses weigh them down. How can our Lions again regain confidence and return home to become kings? We need to remember who we are.
In the spirit of their resilience, I've decided to offer a few pointers that I believe will help them get through the coming week.
In the spirit of their resilience, I've decided to offer a few pointers that I believe will help them get through the coming week.
- Defeat the opponent - Honestly this one seems pretty straight-forward, but a handful of teams (us included) have really not taken it to heart. The key to being successful this week will be in defeating the technical school to the east at their own game, that game being football. I believe that when Penn State takes the field they should do so with the idea that they will play a football game and that they will win that football game. It's a simple solution to a simple problem.
- Score more points than the other team - Okay I may be dating myself a little with this strategy. It's old-fashioned and something coach Paterno might have done back in his heyday. But is this as controversial and outdated as it sounds? I ran the numbers for the first 7 games, and I was surprised to find that in each of them we came away with a higher overall score at the end of the game than the other team. This was in EVERY game during that stretch. I think there's something to this theory and I'd like to see us try it again. The numbers don't lie.
- Take the oblong ball and bring it to the ends of the field (more times than the other guys) - This seems redundant because it is a little redundant. It seems like we need to recap how scoring works and what the goals are of this sport. It's like this - if we get the football and take it to the end zone, the guy with the striped shirt will put up his arms. And that's a good thing, we like that. When the other team does it that's a bad thing. We don't like that.
- WTF, how was there more than one point? Seriously guys this is Rutgers, just win the damn game. Please don't make me hate this game anymore than I already do (I'm also a Seahawks fan who just watched my entire team go down with significant injuries). Remember who you are.
