I have an issue with Iowa and Okie St not showing up for their trophies. It is a slap in the face to the teams that would be thrilled. Kudo’s for Marinelli for attempting to go on Stage.

In the video of psu getting their trophy, Brands and Smith are right there on the side of the platform. I think you are reading way too much into this.

I’m sure they both were just letting the kids have the moment. It’s not like they were in the locker room or left the arena

1st of all this totally is on the Ncaa both Iowa and Okst where there , it was a total cluster f**k and I told my wife if I were Iowa and Okst I'd be pissed both team seamed excited about receiving there placement trophies and getting pics. I have no idea why they weren't given the opportunity. So before you go painting these kids as poor sports know what your talking about. (Lyco)

My OP was a question followed by my perception. I apologize to the coaches for the NCAA f up. And I placed the blame on the coaches not the kids. Thanks for explanation I missed that. This was my ninth NCAA tournament and this is old hat for these coaches. They were announced and did not go on stage so still confused.

Iowa and OkSt were both called to accept their trophies and didn't. tOSU did the same, but then they showed up AFTER PSU got their trophy. It was VERY disorganized.

NO time was given to either team to get on the mat. Iowa and Okst. where on the opposite end the awards area. It was horribly unorganized. And Tom tan Ryan is on the Ncaa committee, if he wasn't to busy whining on tweeter about the officiating maybe he could make sure this kind of crap doesn't happen. I really felt bad for Iowa and Okst. they deserved to be recognized for there accomplishment.

however.... it's not like teams don't know these awards occur shortly after the last match ..most fans are emptying out of the arena .... except for fans of the teams getting trophies....this is not new stuff ... blame the NCAA all you want (I'm no fan of the NCAA) but coaches know this is how the show goes ...year in year out...so to me the coaches are responsible for having gotten their teams in position to go up for the presentation promptly ...maybe I missed something here but it seems the protocol didn't change at all from the past. Think the OP was on target ..not calling anyone poor sports ...think he referenced the schools and by inuendo the "CEO's" of those teams ...at least to my point of view.

You should have seen the B1G 10's if you wanted disorganized. After the 174 finals they failed to do a 165 awards presentation even though the guys were there ready to receive them and the Gophers had presenters ready. Iowa fans took it as a deliberate affront because Marinelli had won. During the 197 matches the announcer tried to get the 165ers to come back for a presentation, but by that time it was too late.

Well you know those Iowa fans can be a sensitive group. ;)

Ok for the last time 2nd 3rd and 4th place teams were called in about a 45 second span, both Iowa and then Okst. came out of the tunnel opposite of the awards area, i would say it was less then a minute before I saw them. This has nothing to do with poor sportsmanship on Brands or Smith. I do have a load of issues with both coaches and there whining and behavior during matches. But in this case both schools go screwed and the Ncaa is totally to blame.

lol..for the last time ... this has been the routine for pretty much ever..not like the coaches don't know 'the routine' and should have their teams ready ...don't see how the ncaa is to blame...they are to blame for most everything but not seeing this one but to each their own view.

Omg they were F*** standing there, what part of this don't you understand. They were not given the chance to go up. I was 10 feet from both teams. They waved off Iowa and never called them back.

The teams were there and ready to accept their trophy and were not allowed on the mat. Don;t see how you blame that on anyone except the NCAA.

Re. Penalty Points at the NCAA Tournament, thought you might find this interesting (no team mentions);

5 - Control of Mat Area penalties
1 - Throwing the brick too late
1 - Coach in competition area
1 - Swearing
3 - Headgear (throwing, whether disgust or jubilation)
1 - Heckling
1 - Walking off mat
1 - Shaking finger at opponent

The whole thing was a complete mess but I don't see how anyone is blaming the teams. They were clearly right there ready to go on stage and then they brought Penn State up instead. Iowa and Okie State were both fully dressed in their warmups ready to go. Blaming them is a reach.

I'm curious about who did the heckling...

I was literally 2 seats from the tunnel where tOSU stood ready to come out for their trophy. They were announced and Ryan and the team started for the mat, but were held back by an NCAA official. The official at the mat was motioning them to come, the one in front of Ryan kept waving her off.
I didn’t stick around after PSU was presented with their trophy, so maybe they did it after.

First time attending for me but always watched this part on tv. In person saw a bunch of teams iowa, Oklahoma state at the side of the mat but they just rattled off the team place winners over the PA without much pause and everyone around me was like “um where’s the team trophies?” It only got better when a women in super high spiked heals walks out on the mat with the trophy for PSU. I was looking for the holes in the mat behind her.....
