Zalesky out at Oregon State -- fired BEFORE nationals.

Some conflicting info about the timing -- WIllie reports that Zalesky is out now and the assistants will coach at NCAAs:


University statement says Zalesky will be out "at the conclusion of the season."

I'm guessing this was in the works for a while. They placed 4th out of 6 teams at the Pac 12 tournament and only had two guys qualify for the NCAAs. That's probably what prompted the OSU AD to pull the trigger.

Seems a little strange they didn't wait two weeks so he could finish up the season?

Who knows what the administration is thinking. One possibility might be the early bird gets the worm. In other words, if they put the word out now that they are looking for a new coach, they might land someone who won't be available later.

I do remember a few years back that a school on the East coast dumped their head coach and put word out that they were looking for a replacement. Things didn't turn out all that bad afterwards.

You could be right. Maybe the AD is going to do some coach recruiting at nationals. Hope they land a guy that can recruit well.

You must not be referring to the dumpster fire that was Pitt hiring Santoro Flynn Hesketh either Pitt football fan the other Pitt football fan Gavin. Though they did end up with a good coach ... not exactly an ideal situation.

I hope Jimmy and Joel both land somewhere doing something with wrestling. I consider both friends and they are two of the nicest people I know. I thought Joel was having success to the degree a coach at a service academy would be expected to have, but I do realize things just weren't working out very well for Jimmy. Both solid people who love our sport.
