Contract Extension for Pat

Once again, Barbour proves what an astute bargainer she its. Dumshit.

It will be interesting to see the contract details when they are released.

I’m surprised he got 1 year much less 4. When the last time a coach has had a losing record for 7 years and gotten a raise? He has taken this program nowhere. Should have been left go

and if she had done that, you'd still call her names

In this case I wouldn't. Notice that I'm not applauding her either. To do that, she would have had to can him, but that's not our Annie.

The way you worded that was ridiculously bad. That being said ... letting go a coach after the 2nd most wins in school history and just had a player leave early to go to the NBA draft for the first time ever in school history ... yea that would be REAL smart and im sure other coaches would just be dying to come here after that one

It’s really a 3-year extension, since he was under contract thru next season.

Is it? A four-year contract extension typically means four years beyond the expiry of the existing contract.

Addendum: Who is the dipshit that updates that Twitter account? Just read the press release and the contract is extended through 21-22, making it a three year extension. That's fair.

He was currently under contract thru 2018-2019. The new deal runs thru 2021-2022 (according to the link).

Amusing that this is your reaction when you don't know any of the contract details or any of the buyout information ... but carry on

I'm going to guess that she gave him a reasonable raise and that there is a standard buyout (base comp x years remaining on contract). If she tightened the screws in those areas, then she's an even bigger dumshit.

I think he earned the right to come back next year, and try to build on what he accomplished at the end of this year. If you don't extend him you are really hindering any recruiting efforts because of the perceived lack of certainty. If the team doesn't progress, PSU can still go in a different coaching direction after next season. However, if the improvement continues the contract improves the chances of having even more recruiting success.

Crusher forgot to take his happy pills today. Can't wait for the @rokar meltdown.

I think Chambers has elevated PSU's standing in the BiG from second or third from bottom to slightly below middle of the pack. Not bad but less than what we'd like.

He’s doing better than the baseball coach.

If he can sustain what he did this year (middle of the pack), we will make the NCAA tournament semi-regularly. Given the history of this program, that would be a major high point. It makes sense to bring him back and see if he can sustain what he just did. Finishing 6th it 7th in the B1G (9-9) in many years results in an NCAA appearance. This year’s selection was biased against the B1G which is somewhat abnormal. Michigan going to the championship shows that this was a silly and unfounded bias.

That is a big IF. And since he has not even made the NCAA tournament once, and this year's success was basically on the back of Carr who has left, I have a hard time projecting Chambers' program as a semi-regular participant in the NCAA tournament.

2016 recruiting 4th in the BiG
2017 recruiting 13th in the BiG
2018 recruiting probably 12th in the BiG

This year we have three 4* players returning but our starting guards will be true freshmen. That will be difficult, then we lose 2-3 of those players and we'll be playing with kids from the 2917/2018 classes. It won't be easy to sustain 6th in the conference.

No, it won’t be easy but, if he falls back to below #10 next year my guess is that he’s gone. And with a new coach right now there would probably be transfers and we’d be 2-3 years away at best, and finish near the bottom next year. So it really makes no sense to do anything besides extend Pat right now and let him recruit. Next year’s team looks relatively strong even without Carr.
