Coon shirting

Nevills one big step closer to the podium.

In other Meatchicken news ... I was unaware that Youtsey will forgo his final year of eligibility.

As for the weight class that Coon leaves for a year, defending NCAA, world and Olympic champ Kyle Snyder (Ohio State) already looked like a huge favorite so not too much changes there. What really shifts are the outlooks for Ty Walz (Virginia Tech), Connor Medbery (Wisconsin) and Amar Dhesi (Oregon State). One of those three should be in the finals now and they all have one less major roadblock to deal with come tournament time. The 4/5 match in the quarter-finals in St. Louis also may have just gotten a fair amount easier as now Snyder, Walz, Medbery and Dhesi could slot into the top four seeds.

Of course, it is a long season and wrestlers like Michael Kroells (Minnesota), Sam Stoll (Iowa) and Nick Nevills (Penn State) could find their way into the mix while injuries can strike any contender at any time. Still, with Coon out, we have a well defined favorite and clear top four…for now.

Likely helps PSU and Iowa relative to tOSU. Snyder was going to beat Coon, and Stoll and Nevills would have been underdogs to Coon.

I like the kid at App St, and Tanner Hall at Arizona State. Both should AA.
Hall gave Gwiz trouble at UWW Akron this year.

Remember that Nevills has a win over App St's DeJournette at Scuffle 2 years ago! A healthy Nevills should do well!

I think it opens up the 2 seed/slot, for any of 8 or 9 guys, one of whom, will be NN, hopefully. I think if you avoid the 8/9 seed, you have a legit shot for Saturday night, if you are one of those 8 or 9 guys.

What would be the consensus top 8 285's this season with the info known now?
Consensus top 4 will be Snyder, them Walz, Medberry, and Dhesi in some order (perhaps that order).

Kroells also belongs in the top 8 somewhere. DeJournette was a #6 seed at nationals, so he'll probably also take a spot.

Consensus beyond that? Good luck. Sasquatch came on strong once he acclimated to college wrestling. After that, Magic 8 Ball says Reply hazy try again.

Injuries to Nevills and Stoll make this difficult, plus most a lot of guys are pretty closely bunched together.

Nevills has a nice opening to make some noise this year if he is healthy and hit the weight room.

We will be pulling for him.

I tend to give Medbery a fair amount of credit -- I would slot him in at #2.

I'll go with El-Jefe's early analysis, though we all know crazy and unexpected things ALWAYS happen at NCAA's. Below is WIN's top-13...I removed Coon, and while we can debate the order (let's not do that), I just want to get the names out there...

Kyle Snyder
Ty Walz
Amanveer Dhesi
Connor Medberry
Michael Kroells
Tanner Hall
Sam Stoll
Brooks Black
Ross Larson
Nathan Butler
Denzel Dejournette
Nick Nevills
