Good morning from Austin!
Graham Harrell at USC has officially interviewed for the OC while former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash has interviewed for the DC. Tom Herman and Ash coached together at Ohio State. Ash interviewed Thursday and is by far the man to beat. By state law Herman will have to interview at least 2 more candidates but I’ve been told it will be probably 3 more so more names will eventually leak out. Ash was here in Austin before the Oklahoma game “consulting” with the staff so they are familiar with him.
How much is Texas looking to throw at new coordinators? Numbers being thrown around are $1.5 - $2M per.
I was with Chris Del Conte the Texas AD last week for the groundbreaking of the new basketball arena and we chatted about the importance of this set of hires. Said this will be the two most important hires he’s ever made at Texas. If you don’t know Del Conte he’s a bull in a China shop. Extremely aggressive and competitive. He will win a bidding war. Chris calls me Mr. Penn State when we work together. Not sure if he likes me or not but I appreciate that he knows who I am and answers my emails and calls.
You’re all going to be disappointed here but I can tell you that he has no interest in Rahne although he knew Brent Pry’s name which makes me think he has done some homework on him. Herb Hand is the OL coach at Texas so he knows the PSU staff too.
I’ll keep y’all updated on anything else that I hear.
