CSUB’s wrestling program will host an “Endowing Future Leaders” event at the home of Kevin and Tuesday Small on Nov. 19. Tickets are $100 per person.

Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson, a 2004 Olympic champion who had a four-year undefeated NCAA career, and former CSUB All-American wrestler Darryl Pope will be the guest speakers.

Penn State, which has won four of the last five NCAA titles, faces CSUB in the Icardo Center on Nov. 20."

Bakersfield had a National Champ from Pa. Paul Keysaw was a PIAA champ and NCAA D1 champ. .

Keysaw is from Athens. Pretty sure he beat Randy Couture in the NCAA final.

He's been head coach at community colleges in CA for around 20 years now, and has been in Fresno for the past 10 years or so. He would be an interesting candidate for the Fresno State job, if interested in the position.

Nice pull. Verified, in 1991, at Iowa. Penn State's Jeff Prescott won Outstanding Wrestler that year, after crushing Chat Zaputil 14-0 in the 118 pound final.

As a wrestling fan whose college kennollege has increased tenfold since arriving at the intersection of Wrestling and Internet, looking at old brackets is just the best. Some notes that jumped out at me from the '91 bracket:
- Nebby's 2-seed Jason Kelber kept 1-seed & returning champ Terry Brands from tying his brother's number of titles by besting him 10-5
- I see Sammy the Bull Henson on the AA podium at 118 (5th, from his 7-seed)
- Troy Sunderland had a decent chance for a title from his 2-seed, but ended up losing to the 3-seed Troy Steiner 4-3 and the 4-seed Chuck Barbee 5-2 to finish 4th
- I think I knew this once, but had forgotten how close Tom Ryan came to preventing Pat Smith from 4x titles: 7-6 in the 158 finals.
- Keysaw had to beat the 8-seed (Curt Strahm, Oregon) and the 3-seed (Couture, OkSt) in the semis & finals for the title
- Penn State had 6 AA's, 1 Champ in Prescott--and still finished 89.5 points BEHIND Iowa
- Penn State finished with 67.5 points--the exact same as in 2015, but finished third vs. 2015's 6th.
- Shows what a difference a dominant Iowa team could do to one year's team race. They had 6 finalists, 2 Champs and 3 other AA's and scored 157 points. Seven (7) wrestlers overperformed their seeds.

Carl has been on a "mission," so to speak, to help to strengthen wrestling programs around the country that can use a boost.

Good to see him giving back, like this.

I was there! Ryan was soooo close. Pulling hard for him to pull it off but he came up just short. Very surprised when Kelber put a hurtin' on Brands but enjoyed every minute of it.

Sitting next to a bunch of Iowa fans (as EVERYBODY was with the tournament at Iowa) and thoroughly enjoyed Prescott smashing Zaputil to pieces. That was awesome and the team taking 3rd at the time was heaven.
