Dabo Sweeney testifyin’

The dude had this deep thought loaded for awhile. Not that I begrudge a man for landing a $93 million contract to coach a game for 10 years, but the Big Guy may have an issue per the Bible.

Total cringe, but he is one of the few pushing back on this sh*t and I think the sport would be better if more did.
Pushed back on it while his school is also partaking quite well in it. Saban also pushed back initially, now according to another website is in the top 3 in NIL spending per recruit. IMHO, these guys pushed back on it because it meant a few more schools would now be in play for their recruits.

Well, they've won two undisputed national championships in the last ten years. Penn State? We won a B1G and lost most of our bowl games against some iffy teams (ARK and Pennsyltucky).

Maybe our "win some with honor" needs to change to something like "Win With NIL and Honor".

Are we pretending he's the only coach that talks about God? I just don't get the hate here. It's basically hating him for being successful. If Franklin said it people here would be praising him for doing things the "right way" and not supporting NIL
yeah...for whatever reason, the cool thing these days is to be oppressed, a victim and put upon. the cool things are like music that sanctifies violence against women and objectification as well as outright crimes.

For whatever reason, going to church, working hard, providing for your families, trying to keep people off of drugs, and keeping intimate relationships well, intimate are all old-fashioned. Worse, it is considered some kind of hate for those who feel objectification, victimization, and criminal activity is the proper path.

I am not sure parents who work really hard, provide for the family, and go to church each week are the bad people.

Evil always hates God’s people
Count it a blessing when others degrade you for your faith in Jesus Christ. A lot of haters here are blessing Dabo.
I have seen plenty of hypocrisy from Dabo already. Doing his 'aw shucks, we're just lil ole Clemson' routine while having one of the highest coaching payrolls and most expensive facilities in all of college football.
My life experience has shown me that a great many people who openly tout their faith are very often not practicing what they preach. Some of the worst hypocrisy I've ever seen has been in 'model Catholics.'

Almost every person is a hypocrite in some aspect of their life

It's not cringe because he mentioned God. It's cringe because he implied they have been successful due to God's name and not regular NIL. Which is disingenuous. Which is Dabo's shtick, according to his critics.
Why do you believe the critics?
Here's the thing--he can sell whatever he wants--if he doesn't live up to it eventually kids will go elsewhere. Whatever promises he's been making (religious or not) seem to be honored.

It is not about him selling anything or living up to it. It is people like him and Saban who are showing how full of shit they are now that NIL has leveled the cash playing field. Dabo waxing religious is about as cringeworthy as it gets. Yet, here you are of course taking a contrarian view. Apropos that this is your take.

Nothing hypocritical about accepting blessings that a life lived for Christ brings. Jesys, was not a poor man
He was a trained tradesman

That isn't new for Dabo. He's discussed his religiosity for a long, long time.

It's not contrarian. This is who Dabo has always been.
Again, if it came from CJF many here would be praising it. Not saying you but others that are complaining

Some people may be offended or dubious, and it may not play well in most places. But you have to admit that Dabo knows what his Clemson audience wants to hear.
Very true. The attitudes by many in the northeast are very different from many in the upstate of South Carolina/ Bible Belt and both are different from many locations in the Southwest, Midwest, West coast, etc.

Lake County here in Central FL is a Bible belt. There are a lot of very strong churches. Mine is building a new 1300 seat sanctuary. We get 1800+ in 3 services. A lot of rural FL is strongly Christian.

Where did you see that I believe the critics? I don't have much of an opinion on him or his level of his sincerity regarding God but his implication that Clemson's success is from God's name and not $ is, as I stated, disingenuous.

I don't wholly condemn him for it, but I would not defend dishonesty with the argument that the kids would eventually figure it out. Nor would I wholly justify disingenuous behavior because "it works".

Yep. I’m not a Dabo fan and think many in the South can go too far with fake religiosity at times while they stab you in the back, (bless your heart… ;)), but I don’t denigrate anyone who has heartfelt faith they try hard to live. Many of the people who get irritated by it have the same basic beliefs. It’s often really just a different way of expressing the same beliefs and it can set some people off, (especially if there’s any perceived hypocrisy involved).

Isn't all that matters is whether or not it works?

Jesus is either God or he isn't. There is no room for interpretation of who He is. If He is not your God, you have forsaken Him..

What about the poor souls whose god ISN'T  Him??? I guess they just burn in 'your Hell?
One religion for the whole world? Rather a narrow minded position, eh? I guess all those poor Hindus around the world can fill up Hell...

Reminds me of a Reddit thread where they were discussing the prison murder of a serial pederast who was a former clergyman. Since he had confessed his sins he was right with God and was saved. But Gandhi, since he did not believe in the “one true God” was condemned. Totally ridiculous belief system
