apparently, didn't play healthy front-line players. But I have to think at $750k fine is pocket change for a franchise worth $3B plus.

Top 8 teams make the playoffs.
Mavs finished 11th in the west and below .500
This is a great acknowledgement that the play-in structure is nonsense. The mavs acknowledged that they had little chance for meaningful success if they snuck into the playoffs and valued other objectives.
Sorry, but considering the 10th team in the conference for a playoff spot further cheapens an already bloated playoff. Good for the Mavs! The NBA should now be on the clock to correct this ridiculous play-in nonsense amongst teams among teams with no chance to affect the playoff outcomes.

Agreed. But I also get the NBA's position who is advocating for the paying customer. You buy these tickets or season tickets and then show up and watch a bunch of nobody's play donkey basketball. That isn't fair either. But I see your point. I get the $750k now...make it sting, look like you are advocating for the fans, get some PR and move on.

$750,000? That’s pretty dadburned funny. NBA players blow that in a weekend on hookers and gambling. Owners blow that giving some star a private pyramid power mystical energy shaman to keep his head in the game.

And most fans would agree with tanking so they get a better draft position. Bet social media is full of fans of the winning team complaining they won.

Respectfully, nobody should be buying tix for the 81st game by the 10th place team expecting a playoff atmosphere. The play-in situation is a naked cash gran by the NBA to try keep below average team "in contention" for as long as possible. It's dumb and the situation is on the NBA for trying to make something out of nothing.

Finally, I'll just say that the NBA has been sitting their best players throughout the year for a long time, so there is never any guarantee of not getting a garbage game when you buy a tic.

We’ll, if you are a season ticket holder, you don’t know until the end of the game

But if you're a season ticket holder you likely know enough about the game to want to keep your first round pick for next year and would understand. You just want to build around Doncic so he stays.

NBA is a joke anyway. It’s Stanley Cup season and that’s all that matters.
Yes. The NHL definitely isn't a bloated playoff system that allows an average team for 82 games get a hot goalie and make a run.

To win a Cup that goalie would have to stay hot for two months. If that happens you deserve a Cup.
By then, the damage is done. A 7/8 seed with a hot goalie shouldn't even be in the playoffs to take out a 1/2 seed.
The NBA/NHL should be 50 game seasons and then have a 32 team playoff. It would be great. Half a year of playoffs. Think of the excitement!

The NHL set up is absolutely fine. Half the teams making the playoffs is the max. The NFL went to 14 for a reason. The NBA went overboard as did MLB but MLB needs cash.
50 game seasons, as you know despite your sarcastic comment about a 32 team playoff, doesn't work because of the money lost. Cutting the season by 32 games because you're adding 2 weeks of games indicates math isn't your strong suit either as hockey must not be a sport you understand.
