Daton Fix OSU question

I have a question about where Daton will fit in OSUs lineup if he commits. With two studs Piccininni and Brock holding down the lower weights and Geller in the wings, where will Daton slot in? I'd assume a possible redshirt his 1st year. Then after Heil graduates, does someone move to 141?

That seems like a lot of talent around the same weight. I'm sure the Cowboys look at this as a problem they'd love to have. Selfishly, I'm hoping this gives Cael a sliver of hope to get him. I'd assume he slots into PSUs lineup a bit easier after Jimmy graduates. :)

Would love to hear from any OSU posters on the board. Thanks in advance.

It's pretty simple.

125- Picc/Fix
133- Fix/Picc
141- Brock
149- Gfeller

Fix would redshirt his freshman year and open up his Freestyle schedule. The guys who should be worried are Boo Lewellen and Tristan Moran.

rumor has it the earthquake the other day, was actually Smith slamming the phone down after a bad phone call.

Brock better pack on the lbs then, would almost certainly be one of the smaller-framed 141 pounders out there

To that point, with Nick Lee coming in it may not be much clearer. Could be Suriano, Cortez, Lee at 141 in 17-18. Unless Daton takes a RS and Nick goes to 149 when Zain leaves (which, I guess, may be the likely occurrence)

PSU in 17/18
25 Fix Fr
33 Suriano So
41 Cortez Jr
49 Retherford Sr / Lee Fr

Suriano could RS and Cortez stays at 33 for 17/18.

Lee RS and takes over for Zain in 18/19

It's all Fix' if he wants it!

I don't see any way that Fix wrestles 25 in college. He can get away with it in freestyle because it's a one day weigh in and he doesn't have to make the weight near as often. Daton would be a big 33 pounder and would still have to cut to make that. I seen him wrestling 138 this season at a few of our tournaments and he was still a lot larger then the rest of his competition.

125-Pic
133-Brock/Fix
141-Fix/Brock/Lewellen
149-Gfeller/Lewellen
157-Smith
165-Rogers/Jacobe
174-Rogers/Jacobe
184-Keegan Moore
197-Weigel/Marsden/Dereck White (Nebby transfer, ranked #2 coming out of hs)
Hvy-Weigel/NEO transfer

He would fit right in perfect at 133. Cortez will be at 141 after this year. Suriano staying at 125 two years now....

He would be a good fit for you guys, but your not lacking talent and for the sake of the sport I hope he goes anywhere but PSU

College wrestling is in good hands with PSU, Iowa, Okie State, O$U, Cornell, Nebraska, Va Tech, and Minny loading up. Only so many to go around. It's wide open unless you have a super three or four. Then it's over. PSU, Iowa, and O$U each have the three. Now who can get the fourth?

I get what you're saying Wrassler but dynasties are good for any sport. Iowa and Okie State had great runs, now it's our turn. Pretty soon, we can wear t shirts saying "we hate you too" also...

According to Creedo , he'll sign with PSU, then transfer to Rutgers. :D:p

I'd add ASU to the mix too. I know that Zeke still has to prove that he can deliver, but you can't argue with his success in recruiting.

John is not very happy about the situation either (from a good friend of John's). Basically the way John see's it right now, is that he has spent a ton of time working with Daton and building a relationship. At first, nobody thought Fix would leave OState, including John. That source said John just wants Fix to make a decision regardless, he is tired of investing anymore time if it's not going to work out. I agree with John but that's the part of the job right? He is the a top 3-4 recruit in the entire country, of course that means grabbing him could be harder then you initially imagened.
Don't get it twisted. I WANT John to keep the "full court press on Fix". I want him wearing orange and black for 4-5 years. But you can't blame Daton, hell why shouldn't be enjoy the ride and listen to every coach possible. You have earned that opportunity with all your hard work and persistence to excellence. This is part of reapeating the benefits. These next 4-5 years will help shape his entire life so yes he should carefully look at all options and make sure whatever he chooses benefits Daton more importantly, not John, Cael, Coleman or any school in his top 5. This decisions goes further then just wrestling. Though Orange would look great on him. Go pokes

Like Marsteller, like Lee. It may be best for him to seek greener, bluer, pastures elsewhere....

... none of which had the #1 recruiting class in 2015 or 2016.

Yep. Since 08, of that group, only Minnesota (08 and 09), O$U (11), and PSU (14) have had the #1 classes according to D1CW.

Smith of all people should know that his recruiting job isn't done until the recruit signs his NLI. Or has he already forgotten flipping the #1 overall recruit a mere 3 years ago?

Completely agree with the rest of this, and not just for Fix. This decision impacts the rest of their lives -- their educations, their friendships, their post-athletics careers, where they will live after school, etc. Getting it right is most important.

Very responsible, and well thought out post (I did change the spelling for "reaping"...you added a couple letters).

No school, or coach is ENTITLED to any of these recruits, regardless of which state they're from, who's friends with whom, which coach has the most time/energy invested, what "insiders" say, etc. It's the same model it's always been, maybe complicated by more exposure, social media, and so on. Academics, location, money (scholarship, plus other expenses), atmosphere, opportunity to improve (develop), friends, coaching staff, fit, and more.

Some schools have more to offer in many of those areas, and while we should not take it for granted, having Cael and his staff, and what he has built at PSU is an advantage in some areas. What TnT has built, what John has built, what Tom R. has built, and others have built or are building each have their advantages too.

Another home run post Roar!

This is not crystal clear to many, but slay returning to U Penn is good for ALL east coast teams, if they embrace it. Having another top not coach, mentor and training environment within a reasonable ride and overnight stay is very good for mid Atlantic teams, growth of the youth/HS sport and us in particular i feel.

We have the Army team, we have the NLWC, we have our team, we have our staff, we have caels growing coaching tree, we have great clubs teams and now we got slay just east of us.

A lot of stars have aligned and continue to move in an easterly direction. If only we could get sPitt in gear (its pitt week, humor me a little)

Why do people think Cortez is moving up? Didn't he leave Illinois so he could wrestle 133?

Cortez has said he would probably move up to 141 eventually.
Time will tell... he's committed, and will do what's best for the team...though Coach Cael gives the wrestlers a lot of latitude to make these decisions for themselves. Met Jered's parents, and spoke several times...if genetics play a part, career 133 is a possibility...though one never knows absolutely.
