As a datapoint:

2018 Worlds cycle
Helen Maroulis was injured.

Her Final X was scheduled June 23.
She had her Final X bumped to Oct 6.
Defended her Team USA spot.
Wrestled in Budapest on Oct 24th.

Fortunately our doctors and trainers base their diagnoses on science.
A peer-reviewed message board would be the ultimate bore, however. Or is that Reddit?

I’m not speculating on a diagnosis, and interpreting non verbal cues is something homo sapiens have been selectively improving for millennia on millennia. Dude looks sad. Certainly hoping for the best however.

This year the World Championships are scheduled to begin Sept. 15th and the acclamation camps are generally a week or so before the tournament, so, theoretically DT can have until the end of August which would give him about 4 months recovery time.

Showing up without training for 4 months would most likely not lead to a positive result. He needs to be healthy enough to train for several weeks prior to the tournament. Worlds isn't the type of event where you can just show up and win.

This is just such terrible timing. With the Olympics next year, there is added pressure on the US to qualify as many weights as possible at this year's Worlds. Additionally, with the way the US system is for making the Olympic Team, having a bye into the final OTT is huge - but you have to medal at the 2019 World's to get that bye. With World Champ Cox likely moving down, and the possibility of World Champ Dake moving up, making the Olympic Team is a much easier path to navigate if you have a bye into the best 2-out-of-3 rather than go through the mini-tournament and have to beat both Cox and Dake to make the team.

DT will just have to beat a few more people on the way to the 20 Oly team. If he likes a challenge he sure got one now.

His nonverbal signals certainly say this is pretty serious.

IMHO his nonverbal signals tell us exactly nothing. Message board speculation is one thing but you guys have got DT with one foot in the grave.

Hyperbole much? I’m sticking to my story, he looks sad in the video. Maybe it’s because he just spilled his K2 Roots smoothie though. I have no way of knowing.

Inferring meaning from context is not immoral though, and I dislike implications to the contrary.

This whole thread is mostly hyperbole so I figured I would joint. You said you have no way of knowing, which I guess means you agree with me. As to me implying anything immoral was done that fits right in with this thread by adding more hyperbole and throwing a straw man argument on top of it. Well done. :D

What's a good message board panic without hyperbole and impatience?

I guess it's unavoidable. We fall in to the same patterns again and again. Just rubs me the wrong way sometimes when board groupthink jumps all over fairly innocuous observations like: "Hmm, David doesn't seem his usual effervescent self, hope he's ok"

Who in this thread at this point has proclaimed the sky to be falling btw? I'm not seeing it.

I don't know. Burroughs did it on a broken ankle. I get he trained up to that point and it makes it so much more difficult, but the only person stopping DT is DT right now in the world.

haha. i saw out of taylors response is he didn't want to not finish. you people read into too much. you drama mamma board drama keyboarders are silly. hahah lol. serious though.

Remember the outcome of Nolfs injury?

This board would celebrate One Legged David Taylor winning Worlds like nothing we've ever seen.

That is, unless Two Legged David Taylor competes.
yea, he lost Big10's!

Patience is a virtue, or so it's said. Time will tell how this plays out.

This thread feels like our little community is hoping the injury is not serious, and well-wishes on his recovery. No "sky is falling", just concern.

Rudis wrestling podcast brought up an interesting question. If David can’t go, does Bo go 86? Likely too short amount of time to be able to make that decision but would certainly improve our lineup if DT couldn’t go

Yeah, he’d have to decide to do that this week. Seems unlikely to me.
