Huge crowd, been 20 years since I’ve seen a nascar crowd this big. Haven’t seen a mask yet. If you aren’t watching you’re missing quite an event.

had it on for ten minutes... already fully bored...

and I appreciate motorsport more than the average guy

Contemporary super-speedway racing / NASCAR formula is for mouthbreathers

I used to never miss a race; Truck - Busch- Cup
Subscribed to several NASCAR publications. Daytona 500 Sunday was one of my favorite days of the year, had season tickets for all the races at Richmond, but it’s been years since I watched a race. NASCAR wanted to market to west coast fans and moved all the start times back. It has turned into a rich man’s sport. No longer can a kid guy down the road get a car and attempt to make a race. Corporations took over NASCAR.
When Winston was the title sponsor- they were there to promote the racing. Now the racing is there to promote the sponsors

I never was a big Nascar fan but I had did the Daytona 500 museum and track tour last March. Great tour as you can walk on the track and they drive you all around it and enjoyed seeing the cars through the years. It surely is one of the best Museum tours for the money.

Did that tour a few years ago after Austin Dillon won. I think it was March so it was right after. Great museum. Being on the track the thing that stuck out to me is that it's not nearly as wide as I thought it looks from watching many races there on television. When they're three wide in the turns there's really very little wiggle room out there. The banking is something to experience. Dillon's car was on display with the confetti still stuck all over it. Very enjoyable museum and worth whatever they charge, ten or fifteen bucks I recall something along those lines.

Did the Daytona Museum a while back maybe 08. Pretty cool changed a tire quick enough to get a certificate saying I changed a tire in under 21 secs. The Indianapolis museum is a really nice also
Did one of those driving experiences once. They are a blast too

If the trucker hat fits....

now, get back to the Test Board and wait for JFK Jr !
Not a NASCAR fan. Been to a race, watched some on the tube. Not my cup of tea. Lost interest years ago when stock car racing no longer used stock cars.

But unlike you, I don’t insult people that enjoy a different sport than I. I don’t watch some other elitist racing and think all others are beneath me. If they watch and enjoy fine. And if they want to discuss the day’s race, well that’s fine too. No need for me to interject and start insulting them.

So a few people started a thread and were discussing the race. Great. It’s a free country that allows people to enjoy their interests even they dare to be different....or least it resembles one. Not so sure anymore.

And I don’t believe that putting people down somehow elevates me. Just don’t have such a delicate ego that that is necessary.

But you will continue to do you. I have no doubt of that.

“If the trucker hat fits ….” He makes it political and tells you to get back to the test board.

Agreed. I simply don't understand the elitism that people show. Is this supposed to be a good thing? I remember when certain parties actually tried to help the middle class as opposed to denigrating them. Very disturbing, frankly.

The thing is, I do agree that NASCAR has lost some of its appeal because the tracks are not as unique as they were back in the day.

I really have not watched it since Dale Earnhardt left us.

Live and let live.

So now no one has mentioned that the biggest and craziest race of the year was won by a rookie making only his eight start. ANd he did it on team owner Roger Penske’s 85th birthday. He has been an making race dude with great teams in multiple racing venues. His team was the last American team to win a Formula One Grand Prix.

NASCAR got so homogeneous with its cars I got bored and stopped watching.

Formula One has some wonky rules that make it fascinating. If you haven’t, go watch Netflix docu series Drive to Survive. Excellent on technical, personal and drama. Not as much about the actual race which is a great angle.

I’ve driven NASCAR at Charlotte and Open wheel. Open wheel is like riding a metal rollercoaster, smooth and quiet. NASCAR is like the wooden ones. All rattles and creaks and bouncy. Both wicked fun. In another life……maybe no Lion or Cowbell, just steering wheel and a gear box.

well….maybe still a Lion and a Cowbell. Lol.

Nothing beats F1 and I see now that the Andretti's are going in with upcoming races in Austin, Miami, and Vegas on the strip under the lights

I was a big Mark Martin fan and have enjoyed doing the solo Pocono driving experience twice. Been the only owner of a 2001 Trans Am Ram Air (WS6) 6-speed manual. Conventions like the "lucky dog' and "the chase" ruined NASCAR for me. Fortunately I am close enough to several dirt tracks where I can still enjoy something closer to the intended purity of the sport.

Kinda like the negative effects of PSU's "STEP" program (only about ticket revenue, not fans in the stands) and the CFP in college football.

Prediction: Andretti’s F1 effort will likely be about as successful as his ‘93 campaign ...

ie. Haas mk2

Andretti never wanted to be in F1. He wasn’t into living in England. Plus he got tossed in with Senna as a teammate with an under performing Ford V8 engine after they lost the Honda supply. Senna left the following year. It was doomed from the beginning.

C’mon, ya gotta admit it’s a little like the NBA in that things shake up at the end. The collision between strategies and rules makes 90% of the race weak foreplay.
