game of the decade.

The only thing that threatens Day's job is another loss to Michigan. That is unlikely given that the game is in Columbus and OSU has a clearly better team. He wins that game, he is fine. Day has kept the program free of scandal and that is a big plus factor.
I’m not an Ohio State fan but it seems amazing to me that OSU fans would want to get rid of him.

He has to beat Michigan this year. At Ohio State, they want titles--not 11-1 or 10-2 with no playoff success.
Day might have to get to the semis this year--fair or not (it's not)

this gets thrown around a lot but Saturday's game is the game of the decade for PSU and tOSU.

For CJF, we've got our best team in years and tOSU appears to be struggling despite having natty-level talent. It is a home game on national TV and a cranked-up crowd. We will probably lose a ton of talent after this season and this opportunity won't come around again for a couple of years in all probability. For CJF, is 10-2 the best we can hope for even under the best of circumstances?

For Day and tOSU, they've lost to UM for four years in a row. They haven't been to a natty game. They are all-in on NIL paying out over $20m this year. They have a loss and another would really hurt their chances for a playoff birth and they still have the UM and Indy games on their schedule. The seat is hot for coach Day and he may not survive a loss to PSU and missing out on a natty birth.

The losing team will have to make some fundamental changes or accept mediocrity. either of those paths will affect these teams more than just the 2024 season.
But we do not have our starting QB? Could get ugly.

Could get ugly?? Really, is that what you believe? Many recent games in this series have been close and this is a good, talented PSU team which has been tested in previous games.

Did you happen to see the back-up QB last week?

The game the Houston Texans had against the New York Jets shows what a pourous offensive line can do for a quarterback. CJ Stroud was sacked eight times and had a quarterback rating of 27 and the Texans were beaten by the Jets.

On a side note, Garrett Wilson had two one-handed touchdown catches, one of which was probably one of the 10 best catches in NFL history.

I would replace 'mediocrity' in your statement to 'normal'.

i.e. If we lose Saturday, we have a decision to make in that is 10-2, our level of normal, acceptable?
If we lose Saturday, we'll be on track for 11-1, so ... no, 10-2 would not be "our level of normal" this year.

It's barely the game of the year, let alone the game of the decade.

Both teams can lose this game and still be favored to make the playoff. They won't be "mediocre" if they lose.

Stop being so melodramatic.

And learn to spell playoff berth correctly.

Disagree. I do think for PU..its the game of the decade. A loss just confirms what the doubters keep saying..we beat weaker teams..can't beat the elite teams. Its just a fact. And this year..we have all the tools , coaches and players to do so along with of course the depth which Franklin has been building on over time. No more excuses.

And if we lose, we'll have a chance, in under 2 months, to beat a number of "elite" teams, and then all the folks saying we can't beat teams we're not supposed to beat will be in their glory.

If we lose...the doubters will still doubt...but we're still very much alive and will have a chance to silence the doubters in the playoff.

This is a great game to get a feel for where we stand if Allar plays but it's just like Ravens-Chiefs to open the NFL season. Great game but if you lose you just determine what must change.

For the record, if we won the doubters are still going to doubt

If OSU had beaten Oregon it would 1 v 2 or 3, which doesn't happen too often in regular season.

It should be a good game and we can rate as to how good or great at 3:30 or so Saturday. If we win, I'll consider it great. If we don't, I won't. I'm sure OSU feels the opposite. No moral victories.

The "normal" label doesn't come from a single year. It's a statement of what is typical over time, not what it is in the moment.

I think the argument is that 11-1 is basically the new 10-2 since we don't play Michigan this year
But I'll take 11-1 and a high seed in the playoff every year--just have to start winning playoff games sooner than later.

I agree 100%. Ridiculous to even talk about getting rid of day. He has a ridiculously good record and recruits very well. Easily within the top five of college coaches. Look at what happened to USC and LSU when they hired what they considered to be top notch coaches. Who would Ohio State get that would be better than Ryan Day.

Well, you've got Chip Kelly already on your staff. ;)

you are getting better or getting worse. tOSU has a great reputation for sustained goodness. The problem is, under Day, they continue to lose the big games. This is for Michigan as well as the playoffs. Losing to PSU, when everyone has said this is one of the most talented teams ever put together (especially after losing to Oregon) would be a massive blow.

That just will not happen. All roads for our success point to beating OSU. It is what it is...
You're probably right! Finebaum said on ESPN today that Ohio State owns PSU, and I don't put a lot of stock in that, but I will be doing my best to keep a positive outlook hoping for a great ending.

I agree with your assessment, what I want to know and see is when we play OSU on an even keel year in and year out instead of being their bitches every year.

No, OSU is staying the same. The recruiting is always top notch. Typically a top four or five team. Next year at worst would be a top 10 team. I believe Ohio state has two five star quarterbacks and two five-star cornerbacks and a very highly rated class coming in. Tom Osborne and Bear Bryant had difficulties winning bowl games early in their career and turned it around. No reason not to expect that from Day. Would add that the players love playing for a Day and OSU. For instance, CJ Stroud has said that he enjoyed every minute in columbus.

I never used the word "mediocrity". But it is clear that this is our best chance to beat tOSU in almost ten years (2016). If we lose and accept that, we are indeed accepting being on the fringe of college football championships. Is that good enough? We'll see what the University does.

I agree that it won't affect my life. In fact, I'll film it and watch it later. Life is too short to be upset about a college football game as a fan. Regardless, this game will chart the course of these two programs for several years to come.
"If we accept that." We have little choice...I'm confused...are we playing today? I'm too old. This game will chart the course of these teams till next week.

This 100%. Yes, they haven't lost more than 2 games a years for what seems like forever (2010-2011 or thereabouts ?), but it's the big games and titles that the die hard OSU fans and followers measure a HC against. I think Day is gone - after the season ends - if they don't win today which will eliminate them for a B1G championship (2 losses) and put them on the edge of a Playoff spot. Day is 2-7 against top 5 teams which is PUTRID for a team like OSU - always in the top 5

Keep in mind, they still have Indiana and Michigan left - although I think they stomp Michigan this year. Indiana? That could be Day's final undoing.
