OSU vs ND game thread

Notre Dame was able to suddenly pass because the OSU offense went into hibernation, which in turn took the D there as well. When the offensive coaches and half the team lose that killer mentality, the rest of the team naturally follows along.
Yeah they just totally lost their edge once up 31-7. That's on Day. He can't let that happen, it almost cost him big time. Their talent advantage was obvious. It is why he is definetly not an elite coach.

I agree he's good but not elite. OSU has all of the talent and resources at their disposal and this is the first time he's broken through almost in spite of himself.

Saban saying it doesn't make it fact
And citations are meaningless as we don't have real data
The general consensus out there is that your team bought a national championship. And my citations mean a hell of a lot more than your opinions based on nothing but your ego and emotion.

My team didn't win a title but that not the consensus--that's just people bitching because they don't like NIL
Those citations mean abolutely nothing--they're not founded in anything other than "as best as we can tell".
Again, you think Carter, Warren, Singleton, Allar, etc all played here last year for free?

Day thought being up by 24 with a little over a quarter left to go that the game was in the bag. To be fair I thought the same. I get why he went conservative on offense with the game seemingly in hand he didn't want a turnover/quick score to give ND a chance of coming back, especially with ND having to pass. But then 2 things happened. The Buck's defense started playing softer giving WR more room and Leonard more time. The second was that Leonard started stringing a bunch of completions together that he hadn't all season. That was more what you saw of Leonard at Duke and why I thought he could be a 1-2 round pick.

The "Day isn't an elite coach and anybody on this board could win a natty with that roster" is an interesting argument. "Interesting" might be misleading. It's major coping. Because we want to explain away everything to cheating and NIL and the deck being stacked against poor ole Penn State.

Day has a weird tendency to pucker against Michigan, but OSU's scheme and preparation looked incredible in their playoff run. Ask Texas A&M or Miami how much loaded, wealthy rosters guarantee them. Ask Oregon how their Phil Knight roster worked out in the end. Ole Miss paid a TON of money for their portal additions last year. How'd that work out?

We have an inferiority complex when it comes to OSU, and it stems from the fact that James Franklin blows it year in and year out. Next year might actually be the year that we win it, but if we do, it'll be because of coaching and scheming. Which is exactly how ANY team wins a championship. Otherwise? You're Texas A&M.

Day is not an elite coach though. Very good but not elite. He shouldn't have let ND get back in that game. Plus one word...Michigan. By the way, he is better than Franklin because he beats him every year.

Spare us any further nonsensical rants. The entire country understands that OSU purchased a natty. Their war chest was much larger than our own in 2024.

Most of those players were already Buckeyes as a few key ones just decided to return for a 4th year instead of bolting for the NFL ---- just like PSU is doing for 2025

And it's not like OSU suddenly became really good - all at once - because of NIL. They've only had 2 losing seasons since the early - mid 1960s. Give them credit

Yeah, it's silly. This narrative only exists because OSU's AD was dumb enough to admit their NIL number out loud. They were hardly the richest team in the country.

Drew Allar is almost certainly getting more to come back than what Will Howard got. Much, much higher rated prospect, too. Think Drew will perform up to Will Howard's standard down the stretch? Coaching and leadership and the intangibles matter. Michigan and Ohio State had experienced, gritty, senior-led teams that knew how to win and knew what winning required. Meanwhile, Texas A&M and Miami and other NIL powers did what, exactly?

This fan base desperately needs to beat Ohio State. They are what we aspire to be, and have been for about two decades.

I thought the series after the ND missed FG is what they botched. In fact I think that was the only series where they didn't move the ball deep into ND territory. They should have just kept doing what they were doing. ND couldn't stop them. The only stop they had gotten before that series was Egbuka fumbling a fraction of a second before his knee was down after s 24 yard gain.

Day has something like the third highest winning percentage of all coaches with something like 60 games under their belt. This year he beat something like 5 out of the top 6 teams. In 2022 after Marvin Harrison was knocked out of the game, he lost to a stacked Georgia team by one point. Has made the college playoffs multiple times. Is Michigan record is a detriment, but it doesn't overwhelm as many achievements at Ohio state. In fact, in the six years he has coached, he has two Big ten championships in Michigan has four which is not horrendous.

Additionally, he probably has the best staff of any college football program. Chip Kelly, Brian Hartline and Jim Knowles are clearly elite. James laurinaitis did a great job with the linebackers this year and Tim Walton has been recruiting great defensive backs.

I would rate Ryan day as maybe the 3rd or 4th best coach in college football. The top coach comes to mind is Georgia's Kirby. But other than that I am curious who people here would place ahead of Ryan Day.

There are a lot of coaches out there that are not as visible as he is. So it is hard to say who is better. He is very good and maybe with Saban gone and Harbaugh (yes Harbaugh) there is only Kirby left as an elite guy. So I don't know, maybe Day is #2 but I don't see him as elite. You cannot lose to Michigan like he does and be elite. In the 4 team playoff he would never have made it. I think he needed to have a couple more nattys prior to this one with all his assembled talent to be considered elite. If he does get a couple more in the next 3-5 years then yes he will elevate himself to elite status.

Multiple NCs? God, winning one is extremely hard let alone multiple NCs.
