Devin Brown to Cal

But Beau had no choice but to decide almost a month ago....
That's what I was thinking too. Beau could have waited. He certainly had the right to bail on PSU and that's what he chose. I have more respect for Devin Brown.

IDK man. It's easy to MMQB this sort of thing.
You have to acknowledge that more and better options would be available the sooner you put yourself on the market and the longer you wait, the less likely that a good fit exists.

Even so, let's look at what happened. Beau signed with a Top 25 SEC team. Devin Brown signed with a near homeless Cal team that got "rescued" by an under-resourced ACC, was 2-6 in that abysmal conference, and has little confidence of where they will be playing football in the near term. I'd say Beau is in a much better position than Brown.

I liked Beau and think he could have been used better than how Coach Franklin used him. I think Coach was just appeasing him with minimal playing time with basic running packages. I think Beau probably felt he deserved more playing time and when he decided he was moving on decided (or was told) not to hang around for the playoffs.
I agree with Lando he could have handled this the way OSU Smith did (unless Coach copped an attitude and told him to move on).

I was in Fenwick Island a few summers ago at a restaurant/bar and had a Happy Valley tshirt on. A waiter struck up a conversation with me. He was a placekicker that transferred from PSU a year or two before. Several kickers were ahead of him and he realized he was never going to kick at PSU. He talked to his position coach about his thoughts about entering the portal to end up at a school where he could play. Position coach told him it was probably the right thing to do. When Coach Franklin found out about it he called him in and raised holy hell with him. If he acted like this for a kicker who was never going to see the field how do you think he would have handled Beau. I know it is a different situation with nil $ thrown in but I have to wonder if Beau made the decision or if Franklin made it for him.

Brown not Smith

It's not a MMQB thing--I said it at the time and we all knew this was the option. He could have entered the portal, like Brown, and stayed while his agent secured him a starting job, like Brown.

Devin Brown wasn't the same level prospect. Beau still could be at Mizzou.

I have to believe there were more people involved than just Beau involved in his decision and I also would speculate that teams that were Interested were putting pressure for him to be enrolled asap.

How? Spring practice hasn't started--he couldn't have spoken to anyone prior, right?
If he was, then there absolutely is no need
Everyone needs to stop making excuses for him. He made a decision and needs to own that decision. We all know it had nothing to do with the 12/28 deadline. See everyone else that portaled after

Did you see the Franklin interview when this happened? Beau was distracted, naturally. He had to vet suitors, visit schools, etc. all while they were preparing for the 1st round of the playoffs. It was best for both parties to move on.

All fair--if he would have said that instead of falsely claiming the 12/28 date mattered at all
But he didn't...and he had the option to stay
I do disagree--he wasn't distracted--he was emotional and upset because he thought he was going to start here in 2025 and reacted as he did

Very loyal, competitive, talented, and decent guy. Sorry he didn't get much of a chance at OSU, partly because of injuries at very inopportune times. Glad to see he earned a national championship ring, and I was hoping that Ohio state would have a big lead at the end of the game so that he could get in for a couple of plays.

Maybe you should write beau a letter.

We don't need to hear it 1000x times.

Unfortunately, Beau’s BEST choice was to decide almost a month ago. Opportunities evaporate the longer it plays out…..but you already know this. So that begs the question, Why Poke the Bear? Moral indignation from you, or anyone here on this, boarders on self absorption

This is false--he could have had everything worked out with Mizzou while still being here--just like Brown did
There's no "bear" to "poke". Beau lied and falsely claimed he had to decide by the 28th--not sure why anyone is okay with that

Really? You were negotiating? —Unsure how you have such succinct inside info into that particular negotiation .
—Only way to prevent this is to make all portal moves post season, with everyone at the starting line at the same time. If that requires shortening the season and/or starting early, so be it.

You realize Wisconsin likely just ended the portal by refusing to release a player, right? The NCAA clarified that if someone is enrolled they're eligible. The portal is dead.
Yes, agents can work out everything before kids enter the portal which is why the move fast and there's claims of tampering. Beau could have entered the portal, had his agent handle things and played but he was upset that Drew was staying and ran. Which is fine but he said repeatedly he had to decide by 12/28 which was untrue

With regard to “ the portal is dead”…..stay tuned.
—With regard to the rest… Speculation from a complete outsider whose angst toward the athlete is palpable. —Anyone can have an opinion, and you have yours…..but absent attendance at the negotiation, that’s all you have, and that counts for zero.

The courts have made it clear. Wisconsin killed the portal. We may not like it but we know what's coming.

Not speculation. Reality.

There's no angst. I'm glad he's gone. Devin Brown proved Beau was a liar no matter what you say. Beau said he was FORCED to decide by 12/28. Lie. Flat out lie by a coward that didn't want criticism...

Wallace Evans and everyone else handled things like adults despite the Omari tweet while Beau showed his true colors. Good luck to him in Mizzou

And you know all the facts on why Beau left when he did? All the info on the deadlines and timelines for whatever graduate endeavor he pursued? It ever occur to you that your proof of Devin Brown is a totally different situation with a different set of rules for enrollment? Cut the kid some slack, I’m sure he did not want to bail when he did and that there is far more to it that anyone here knows.

Just for kicks - we beat ND with Beau at the helm. I could care less what #15s ceiling is in the pros. All I care about winning PSU games and what QB gives us the best chance to do so.

We know why he left--he left because he wanted to play next year.

We know the deadline--he had a week after we were eliminated to enter the portal. Fact not an opinion

Every player can get admitted late--did you see what he's getting a masters in--he could have enrolled in March and they would have let him for the spring.

He gets no slack for lying. He absolutely wanted to bail when he did--if not he would have stayed. Fact.

Beau doesn't beat ND and we never get to that game with Beau as our QB. His one snap against Oregon actually playing QB he took a sack. There's not a coach in the world that would want Beau over Drew--not one. Just you overvaluing a backup. We put up 24 which should have been more than enough to win

Lots of inside baseball to these portal negotiations that none of us are privy to at the time. Easy to assume what took place, but no way of knowing for sure.
Perhaps Mizzou wanted an answer by a certain date or would move on to Plan B. Or perhaps he was encouraged to get out of Dodge sooner rather than later by someone inside the PSU program. Or maybe he felt someone reneged on a promise and that became the last straw.
Bottom line: He made was he felt was the best decision for his circumstances. And he doesn’t have to explain it or justify it to anybody.
I wish him well.

Mizzou could have had an answer while he was still here. Like Cal did with Briwn.
The absolutely felt like he was told he was going to start then was angry so he felt
He doesn't have to explain anything but he can't falsely claim the NCAA forced him to make a decision by 12/28.

Informal understandings are not enforceable. Anything could have happened in the interim between the time that Pribula continued playing for Penn State and when he could formally sign with Missouri. In fact, about 25 years ago the Cleveland cavaliers had an informal agreement with one of their forwards, whose name I can't remember now, and the cavaliers drafted someone based upon the informal understanding. The forward walked away from the informal understanding and the cavaliers were left holding the bag.

I don't think you are correct in saying that Pribula lied. Missouri could have told him that we would like to have you but if you don't sign we can't guarantee anything that might happen in the interim.

And, with that, he still had options
