So, EDVA indicted a 30-year old former DIA employee on two counts of disclosing top secret and secret national security information to "Journalist 1" and "Journalist 2", who are are apparently respectively Amanda Macias and Kourtney Cube from CNBC and MSNBC . Apparently the defendant was living with Journalist 1, ie, presumably thinking with his dick. (Somewhat humorously, I saw one post of Macias' old work profile that proudly noted that she had a "BJ" degree from the U. of Missouri, which I didn't realize was actually a thing but apparently is.) The indictment also alleges that the defendant and the journalists were actually stupid enough to be sending text messages, twitter messages (including the source retweeting the stories of the journalists that were based on the information he provided), and using their cell phones in their dealings.
Personally, I think that they should just name the journalists in the indictments in cases like this. Not necessarily to charge them, because that's obviously got some First Amendment sensitivity around it. But to just be really publicly clear to would-be sources that these particular people are probably not the type of people that you should be entrusting your personal liberty to.
