if u saw the Purdue game last night, did u c the move that Carson Edwards made that ended in a layup (late in the game before OT). he took the ball to the hoop and stopped dribbling just before he entered the paint about halfway down the lane. the then put the ball between both arms (better than many RBs) and ran until he shot the ball coming out the other end of the paint. i have no idea how many steps he took, but had to be over 3 steps. his form holding the ball like a RB was so good that maybe CJF should have him on our staff to coach RBs. of course the announcers were wow on the basket, but you can do a lot when you don't have to worry about being called for traveling, steps, etc.

if u saw this, do you think he traveled? the guy had an unbelievable game, so don't want to take anything away from him, but that play looked like it should have been a turnover to me.

He traveled, but traveling isn’t really a thing in basketball anymore.

I get that but this one even seemed extreme in today's game.

what do you think would happen if we could go back in a time capsule and get a ref crew from say 50 years ago - and put them in a game today. i don't think the rule book was ever changed, so they would just call it like they did in 1968......LOL

Yeah, I immediately thought it was a travel... I wasn’t surprised that it wasn’t called though.

There would be travels called, carrying the ball, fouls...the refs would be busy.

They’d probably ask what the arc was on the floor and why everyone was drawing imaginary arrows with 3 fingers and shooting them with their imaginary bows when making a shot behind it.

If you’re on your way to the basket, you can pick up the ball at the foul line and start running.
This is not a new thing, either. I once saw a highlight reel from the 80’s of travels.

Neither is palming the ball. Every player now does that. It’s what makes their crossovers possible. Was it a rule change that caused that, or did it just become acceptable?

And how about 3 seconds in the lane?

Good point. Saw at least 1/2 dozen or more blatent violations just yesterday alone.

The Virginia player with the Dennis Rodman haircut was in the lane on one play for well over 10 seconds.

In the two weeks of the tournament I recall just ONE 3 second call. (Don’t remember which team or game.)

I told my wife....can you believe that? He literally turned into a fullback and held ball in both arms and took like 5 steps....should have been a travel called...but no everyone was so enamored by this kid. Honestly, glad to see Purdue lose.
