Dikembe Mutombo 58 has passed

Gosh, I'd lost track of him and didn't realize he was ill. His death at 58 is testimony to an old saying that the good die young.

As a Georgetown basketball fan back in the day, I remember his time there fondly. He went on to bigger fame in the NBA.

But the main thing is that in a world where star athletes are turned into celebrities and often learn the wrong lessons in the process, Dikembe stood apart for his class, his grace, his decency, and his virtue. He was an exemplary husband, father (of 7), and Christian.

The records and fame you leave behind. The reputation and contributions to others you take with you. Job well done...mission accomplished...RIP...
