Directed from PSUTE - Philly advice

I don’t have any special NYE knowledge, but would suggest something near the bars and restaurants that you’ll want to walk to. Sofitel and Loews come to mind.

Hey, .I'm gonna be in Philly for NYE, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on places to spend NYE. TIA
You're going to need to give some information in order to get responses. Like; where you are staying; what you like to do; types of food/music/drink you like; budget; etc. The more information you give the better the responses.

I'll start with one suggestion. Go to the Mummers Parade on New Years Day.

I'll be in Logan Square, so I'd like to be in the downtown area. Budget-wise: kind of middle of the road. I'm good with any food. I'm a beer guy, but I'm going to try to hit a brewery or two before NYE. I typically listen to alternative rock.

Unfortunately, my flight out is around noon on New Year's Day (gotta get home to watch the Rose Bowl *dodges shoes*) so I doubt I'll be able to catch any parade.

It’s been a while since I lived in Philly but I know they have fireworks at Penns Landing. Linked site of things to do over the holidays in Philly.

EDIT- New Year’s Eve events-

Yeah, saw that. That would be kind of cool.

Logan Square isn’t that far from Society Hill/ Old City and Penn’s Landing (for the fireworks/ ice skating/ dinner cruise). I always liked walking around that part of town.

You’re also walking distance to the Kimmel Center on Broad Street if the Philadelphia Orchestra is of interest.

I’ll let others jump in with the restaurant/ bar scene in Centre City. It’s been a while since I’ve been there to keep up with those. ;)

If you’re leaving early on New Year’s Day for the airport I’d add some extra time for the trip as the Mummer’s Parade will close some streets/ alter traffic.

The Plough and the Stars, located on 2nd st. between Market and Chestnut, is a great restaurant in the Irish Pub tradition. It’s near Penns Landing if you want to catch the fireworks. They have traditional Irish music, a great beer selection, and good pub grub with a varied menu, everything from fish and chips to steaks, salmon, and lamb. It’s a fairly large multi level restaurant and bar, and it’s very festive. I don’t know if they have special NYE packages, but you’ll need a reservation there. Note that there are a lot of places in that neighborhood which are also good.

Actually, that looks familiar. I've got drinks and maybe apps there once.

Good to know about the road closings. Thanks.

I've been to Philly many times, just not really for New Year's, and it has been about 4-5 years. So, I sort of know m my way around. I have been ice skating in Penn's landing before, but I think we'll probably be doing that since I know she hasn't. Also doing the City Hall tower because I always wanted to, and never got around to it

If the city hall deck is closed for some reason there’s also an observation deck on the 57th floor of 1 Liberty Place.

Reading Terminal Market is also a great place to grab something to eat during the day.

Also just saw the link for R2L restaurant and lounge on the 37th floor of 2 Liberty Place for dinner with a view. I’ve never been there but if you do end up there stop back and let us know how it was.

Also, Del Frisco’s steakhouse is unusual in an old bank building at 15th and Chestnut. (Never been there but its likely very expensive).

I want to hit up DiNic's and either Lorenzo's or Dolce Carini while I'm there.

I’ve eaten at R2l in Liberty Place. It’s very good, also expensive and fancy. The views are great.

Might help if you gave dates, an extra day or two might mean the difference between places like the Reading Market being open or not...

Take the train to the airport. Worked well for me last trip.

that's a non-issue with regards to staying n Logan Square, and flying out of the airport. The road closures will be on Broad, and around City Hall. From Logan Square a cab/Uber/Lyft would either jump on I-76, take that to 26th Street, take that to Penrose Ave, and then take that to I-95, or take I-676 to I-95. Neither route would encounter any street closures due to the Mummers Parade.

As @kgilbert78, you could also take the Airport Shuttle from Suburban Station or 30th Street Station to the Airport. You could walk from Logan Square to Suburban Station (a bit of a hike), or take a cab/Uber/Lyft to 30th Street Station.

Googlemaps says it's 0.3 miles from Logan Circle to Suburban Station (6 min walk). Probably depends on which hotel is chosen.
