I see Maryland becoming a big thorn in PSU's side over the next few years. Durkin is the real deal and after he locks down Maryland I see him going after PA.

With Kevin Plank involved we might see a Oregon in College Park which will hurt PSU.

Nah, not really. He'd have to be there for 10 years to have that big of an impact on us, and he'll probably move on if he has any success at all. There are so many good players in that area that we'll still do fine.

There's no history of any good PA kids going down to Maryland. Not happening.

Northwestern's probably seen their best days, though, don't you think? I wonder if Pat will get tired of it and go elswhere.

Serious comment. Money rules in facilities recruiting and other aspects of sports.
Anyone notice what the money did for PSU wrestling?

Kevin Plank has bigger problems than worrying about giving money to Maryland

To be completely honest, at times I forget they have a football program.

NO!

Yep, right after he locks down Maryland........ which will never happen......

MD's problem isn't just PSU...in addition to Happy Valley, the state's best kids are going tosu, VT, UM, and other more relevant programs. They're going to have to start winning on the field (not likely to happen) before that under armor money starts kicking in.

What makes him the real deal? He signed 28 kids in 2017, yet Penn State still had a higher ranked class.

In 2018, they have zero commitments while Penn State has 11 with the #1 ranked class so far.

As far as the actual match up in 2017 is concerned, they have very little upper class talent and might be starting a freshman QB.

Contrast that to PSU, who ESPN just ranked as having the #1 QB unit, #1 RB unit, and #1 WR/TE in the B1G going into 2017. PSU will be a heavy favorite.

So again, why should we be afraid of the turtle? When exactly is Durkin going to overtake Franklin?

This new QB they have now, is a bit of a concern this year. Fortunately we get him in game 12, after a full season of being banged up. They recruited well under Durkin, but a very big part of that was their numbers, which explained why.

Durkin will process, but it will take another two years for all that to take full effect.

Durkin turned in a top 10 recruiting class off of a 6-7 season. Next year he's probably winning 8-9 games so I could see a top 5 class.

With CJF and company here, there is no need to "fear" anyone in the B1G

But if there were, the categories would be something like
Programs to worry about

tOSU

Michigan

Wisconsin

MSU

Programs not to worry about much

Iowa

Nebraska

Northwestern

Minnesota

Purdue

Programs to have for Homecoming

Illinois

Indiana

Maryland

Rutgers

Yo overlooked the possibility that PSU might have greater success on the field and continue to out recruit Maryland by appealing to higher caliber talent within the region and across a wider geographic area. Only an idiot fails to assume that the opposition won't improve and prepare for it.

They couldn't win with Solt, Dudish, White and any of those those guys either.

MD's win over us 3 years ago (when we had 65 scolarships) will be their last. As Beano Cook used to say: "MD will beat Penn State when France beats Germany."

Actually, if you look at their schedule closely, they could easily drop to 5-6 wins.

And no, they didn't have a top 10 class. If you recall, at the very end we took two kids who he wanted very, very badly.

LOL

Good one.

I can see Ohio State maybe being a bit of a thorn in our side, but... maryland??? Haha no.

Mickey Dudish and Charlie D both went to Meyers High School. Meyers also produced Penn Staters, Todd Moules, Lance Hamilton and Phil Ostrowski. Rocket and Quadry Ismael were also Meyers grads.

Not even close to a top 10 class and much of the ranking was due to the sheer number of recruits they had.
