Does Zack Mills still hold the record for most yards in a game for QB?

A bit unfair to Mills, aren't we. MIlls still holds the domestic passing yardage record for 399 vs. Iowa in 2002. He threw one pick 6 each vs. OSU in 2001 (Eddie Drummond's fault - hit him in both hands!) and 2002. MRob threw one in 2004 when Mills was hurt. As for pick 6 records vs. OSU, Morelli and McGloin (what is it about QBs with last names starting with M?) hold the record with three each. Both threw 2 at the Horseshoe in one game and also had a pick 6 at home.

What are you talking about? I always thought Mills was decent for us. He wasn't Collins, but he did alot of good for our program.

He never threw over the middle, ever, and his passes to the sidelines took 3 seconds to get there. He was serviceable. I thought Wasserman was the better of the two, but he left to be closer to his mother due to her health.

Mills was good until his sophomore year when he entered the Michigan-OSU part of the schedule. His arm/shoulder never recovered from a hit during the Michigan game.
Agreed. Who could forget the role he played in securing Joe his 324th victory? Let's be fair here.

At the 4:11 mark, Zack Mills takes it the distance - 69 yards - to begin the turning of the tide against tOSU. PSU roared back and Joe had win #324. Mills was a star that day.

Mills took more big hits than any QB in Penn State history. Running that option nearly killed him. Amazed how he kept getting up. Guts! Any criticism of him is unwarranted in my book.

Yep. Plenty of guts.

Mills, tough kid but lost his arm strength after the shoulder injury. Still love him for the comeback win for 324. One of my most memorable Beav games. Still have the tix stub in my wallet.

The two are totally independent of one another.

One can have plenty of guts; taking hard hits but yet still throw pick-6' into the arms of the other team!

GEEESH!

TheGLOV is a brute! Take it out on ND and the Rivals guy, not a loyal Nittany Lion. :D

Mills takes the rap for the down years as the QB of record for 2001-4. However, he was not surrounded by a wealth of talent. Here's a challenge for the thread leader in Mills hate, GLOV: Name a receiver or TB from 2003 or 2004 not named MRob, or Tony Tony Tony Johnson. No cheating checking out box scores, either. I'll wait as long as it takes. 8)

As I stated earlier in another thread, I don't pander to the crowd. Never will. You question and point are moot.

I stated that General Mills became Generous Mills when we played Ohio St. by throwing pick-6's for touchdowns. And that is a FACT.

It does not say anywhere, that I never appreciated what he did for PSU; that I didn't root for him; that I questioned his toughness, etc.

True I do hate N.D. but life goes on sir.

You keep waiting youngster cause an answer is NOT forthcoming.

Thank you!

The GLOV quoting the GUMP. Nice, and you can stuff that youngster stuff. I'm almost old enough to be Mills' father (but I'm not).

I'm aware of Mills' pick 6's vs. OSU. All I was pointing out was that we've had worse performances vs. OSU, and that Mills gets a bad rap considering what he was working with, especially in 2003-4. Don't take it so personally.

Nice response. Let me run and get a tissue.

Upon further review; yes, it was a nice response.

Didn't take it personally at all.

Just stuck to my opinion and the facts.

He has gotten more mileage out of the 324 game then it ever should. He was a below average to average college QB that was as big a part of the losing seasons as anyone.

I am pretty sure he played with an NFL first round pick at WR. An NFL TE'in Gilmore. They had adequate RB play in McCoo, Easy and Johnson as well.

The 2003/2004 teams are ones that I can give somewhat of a pass on because those teams had very little offensive talent that ended up panning out. So pretty highly ranked guys that missed. Humphrey, Ernest Terrell, Kinta Palmer, Terrance Phillips all played below their recruiting. Add in Austing Scott and there were just a bunch of guys that couldn't make the next step.

At the end of the day I don't think Mills had enough leadership qualities to rally the troops. Even with his short comings I think Robinson at QB those years would have yielded better results.
