Rivals top 10 in PA:

1. Sanders - PSU
2. Upshir - Michigan lean
3. Menet - PSU
4. Hamlin - OSU lean
5. Dioubate - PSU lean
6. McGovern - PSU
7. Valentin - No PSU offer, VT lean
8. McIllwain - SC
9. Hudson - PSU lean
10. Angeline - USC

Looks like we could get 5 of the top 10 which is very good but not as good as last year. Dioubate seems to be the top target at this point. I hate losing any top PA players (Hamlin) to OSU. I sure hope we get Ferns. Anybody know why we didn't offer Valentin? His offers included Michigan and Wisconsin.

Some years it will be based on offer/need/playing time. PLUS, Franklin and staff are still very new. Over time those NOT going to PSU will be outliers, much like Ohio and OSU.
Specifically, Upshir was never interested (as has been the case with many Philadelphia public league kids). That is changing for a host of reasons. Hamlin is looking at the depth chart. Would PSU like to get Upshir and Hamlin? sure, but not critical. Odd there are no PITT guys in the top 10?

Nope. No Pitt recruits in the Pa top 10. The recruits have already played 4 years in front of high school crowds. Why would they want more of the same?

Just an FYI, rivals rankings and who our staff thinks we need/want are not always the same. So, "Dominate the state" really is short for "Dominate of those who we want in the state."

The only one on that list that our coaches really wanted but didn't get is Angeline. Staff also would have liked Upshir, but I think they wanted Angeline more and slowed their play a bit with Upshir (plus, I think the response from Upshir was less than super-enthusiastic). Also, got a TE out of CT that the staff is very excited about, so I doubt they'll expend a lot of effort on Upshir from here on out. We were in the driver's seat for Hamlin, then slow played him a bit when we got commits from two top CBs, and still eying Nixon as our only WR they want to take in this class.

So, when you look at it more deeply than just scanning down the rivals top-10 rankings, the staff is doing fantastic -- Really every bit as good as last year. Really only one "loss" (Angeline).

I think Upshur just never wanted to come here, period. It doesn't matter who was recruiting him, he wasn't interested in State College.
