A little help from those of you who are regular contributors either to PSU, PSU Wrestling or the NLWC.

I am not a PSU alum (RU, in fact, go ahead and boo-hiss), but as a PA resident have been a dyed-in-the-wool Nittany Lion fan since I can remember.

As an aside - First game I have a vague recollection of was PSU-Missouri Orange Bowl and I have this snapshot in my mind of the score on our old TV in the rec room in that old blocky TV graphic style. First game I can really remember was another Orange Bowl, this time against LSU in 1974 and that game I can remember being excited about, and my fandom began in earnest. I became a PSU wrestling fan during my freshman year when I was visiting PSU one weekend during the winter - 82/83 I think - with a football teammate of mine, Chopper (yes, Chopper, his real name was Charles Noti and he was a LB). We were staying with his HS buddy, Woody - can't remember his last name - who was a freshman on the wrestling team (but not a starter). Woody had been a DXI champ from Dieruff his SR year (would have been 82 - if anyone can recall that name). We went to a PSU wrestling match against Cleveland State in Rec Hall. Came down to the last match I think, but can't remember the details. Man that was a great trip down memory lane.

Anyway, when Casey sent out the information on the matching donations, I figured WTH why not financially support what has given me so much enjoyment over the years? I set up a recurring donation - nothing anything big, but enough that I felt good about it. I received my thank you and my receipt without thinking much about it.

Now, when we are coming up on my recurrence, I checked the emails I received and I noticed the gift tax receipt email included a description "Penn State Wrestling Team", but the thank you email which also details future donations is from PSU Annual Giving entity. Nothing at all about PSU wrestling in this correspondence.

I am not interested in giving to the PSU general fund. I am interested in donating directly to PSU wrestling, or alternatively, the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club. Any of you donors on here have some advice on how to do this and what is really best for the wrestling program? I also have no clue how to stop a recurring donation to PSU Annual Giving - there is no information for me to log into at all that I received after my initial donation. The information is a cluster - what the hell would happen if I actually wanted to give more to PSU (and not directly to the wrestling club). They certainly don't make it easy.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I also signed up for a recurring donation using the link that Clay shared during the zoom call. My monthly receipts are the same as yours. The annual giving receipt says it’s for PSU wrestling.

The gift receipt description says PSU Wrestling Team. It reads to me - especially in combination with the additional letter received - that this is an indication of the fundraising link/sponsor, not an indication of the beneficiary of the funds. The thank you letter afterwards indicates PSU Giving fund - no mention of wrestling. I am concerned that this will be going into the general fund moving forward, but maybe I'm wrong. That's why I am asking.

Oooh, you're wading deep into the PSU blob with this one. But I get it -- you want to ensure your donations are targeted, and not to the University President's slush fund. And you're right to want clarity.

I'd start by avoiding the blob if possible. Guessing Roar knows how to do this, or knows who does. If you can DM him here or have his contact info, he'd be a good starting point.

Next shot would be Clay Steadman.

Then I'd try the Penn State Wrestling Club or NLWC officers.

If that doesn't work, then there's the blob. Alyssa Francona is the head fundraiser for PSU Athletics. She almost certainly won't talk to a low-level donor, but her secretary should be able to send you to someone more at an individual donor level.

A heads up, PSU is very focused on NIL. You'll need to be clear what type of donation you're making.

Good luck!

Just make your check out to me. I’ll make sure it gets to the right people. 😁
To add to this..... In the memo on the payment make sure to write "wrestling only"
I got pics from Ag's only fans...
It was a bad day..

You can donate directly to the NLWC so the money goes to them. If you join the Penn State Wrestling Club we give a check every April with our excess funds (over $100K for the last 12 years) which goes directly to Penn State Wrestling. Pretty sure when you donate to the Nittany Lion Club you can say where you want the money to go but that is off of memory so I may be wrong.

I think you are OK donating through the link that Clay provided. It goes to the Excellence Fund which is the NIL collective fund. If you designated wrestling, that's where it should be going. If you drop Clay an email with your donation info I'm sure he can confirm. I had the same question. It looked like a General Fund donation, but it wasn't.

Kirby Wood was backup 167 that held off Matt Ghaffari (sp) @HWT in Rec around that time and clinch a one point team victory.
A good pull. It was 1984 and one heck of a match. At the time, Cleveland State had a really good team. Steve Sefter, our AA HWT was hurt and Kirby stepped in needing to lose by less than 12 to win it for the Lions. He lost 12-1. Probably the happiest I've ever seen a wrestler who lost that bad, LOL, but he did what he had to do against a ranked HWT.

Kirby was a nice kid, a great teammate, and deserving of the press he got after the match.

Well it looks like I was a sophomore not a freshman when that trip happened - not surprised, I couldn't tell 1983 from 1984 now if you spotted me a 3 or a 4.

Thanks.

You didn’t even say hello to me. For whatever reason, that dual, with that finish, has always stuck in my head.

Remember this: None of us ever knew wrestling existed before 2011.

Thanks to all for the advice. I have emailed Clay.
Let me know what he says. I spoke with him at the golf outing and he asked to prioritize donations for NIL, I want to make sure my donation is going to the right place.
