The PRC
The best wrestling team in the City of Philadelphia (no offense Penn).

125 – Antonio (Fr) or Dante Mininno (Fr) <Gateway, NJ>

So far, the speculation is that Antonio starts and Dante redshirts. Antonio will take over from 4-year starter Zack Fuentes who went 19-8 last year and didn’t qualify for the tournament (Fuentes qualified in 2016, going 0-2). Antonio was a New Jersey state champion @113 in 2017 and 4th @120 in 2018.

133 – Smith (Fr) <Virgin Valley, NV>

There looks to be another true freshman starter here with Ty Smith taking over for transferee, Austin DeSanto. Let the jokes commence about his high school name… Anyway, Smith is a 4-time Nevada state champion. Last year DeSanto had an overall record of 30-7, securing the 7 seed before melting down at the tournament and finishing in the round of 12.

141 – Flores (So) <San Marino, CA>

Julian Flores went 13-15 and didn’t qualify for the tournament in his first season as the starter. He had 1 win against a NCAA qualifier (Enriquez – App State).

149 – Elfvin (So) <Father Judge, PA>

Trevor Elfvin went 16-12 as a true freshman starter and didn’t qualify for the tournament. He had some notable wins against Moran (OSU), Morris (NCSt) and Schuyler (Lehigh).

157 – Hammond (Sr) <Chambersburg, PA>

Garrett Hammond is listed on Drexel’s 18/19 roster so it looks like he got a 6th year. Last year, Hammond went 21-7 overall and 1-2 in the tournament. His tournament win was a pin against 16 seed Mike D’angelo (Princeton).

165 – Jarrell (Jr) <East Greenwich, RI>

Ebed Jarrell went 23-13 last season and didn’t qualify for the tournament. He had 1 win against a NCAA qualifier (Carson – EMU).

174 –O’Malley (Fr) <Hasbrouck Heights, NJ> or McLaughlin (Fr) <Woodbridge, NJ>

Incoming freshman Mickey O’Malley is Drexel’s highest ranked recruit coming in this year and finished his high school senior year undefeated as the 170lb New Jersey state champion. Bryan McLaughlin went 9-4 in his redshirt season. In his final season with Drexel, Austin Rose went 20-18 overall and 0-2 in the tournament.

184 – Walters (Fr) <Bishop McCourt, PA>

Yet another likely true freshman starter for Drexel, Anthony Walters was the PIAA (AA) state champion @220 last season (runner-up @195 in 2017 and @170 in 2016). He’ll be taking over for two-time qualifier (0-2 in 2018, 0-2 in 2017) Alex DeCiantis who went 18-8 overall last season.

197 – Loiseau (Sr) <Lancaster Catholic, PA>

Stephen Loiseau returns for his final season with the Dragons. Last season, he went 32-12 overall and 1-2 in the tournament from the 12 seed.

Heavy – Goodhart (Sr) <Hempfield, PA>

Two-time qualifier (0-2 in 2017, 1-2 in 2016) returns from a rare senior redshirt season for his final season at Drexel. He went 10-4 last season in opens (coincidently, he beat Singletary). Last year, Sean O’Malley started as a true freshman and went 3-13.

Drexel loses three of its five qualifiers from last season and return a former qualifier from redshirt. Even if they don't beat their 35th place/8 point performance from last year, this team is very young overall and has had two good recruiting classes in a row. The future is looking bright in this part of West Philly.

Some more serious thoughts:

Good to see Hammond get another crack. Plus his NCAA performance was skewed by the random draw -- got Hidlay in Round 1. Probably wouldn't have placed anyway, but no way he was the 32nd best guy in that bracket.

Walters to 184 will be interesting. He went 220 after losing to Hoffman in 2017 -- and was an undefeated state champ up a weight. Not sure how the rigors of a full season down a weight will impact him.
