During whatever crappy bowl game was on earlier today, they were talking about the CFP during the game. And one of the announcers talked about Boise and then commented how the only tough game PSU played was Ohio State and they lost. No mention that PSU has a win against Top 25 Illinois. No mention that Texas and ND have 0 wins against the Top 25, just that PSU has a weak schedule. Also the big goofy former OL from BYU that does the ESPN halftime shows picked PSU as the team on upset alert for next round. Not 2.5 pt favorite OSU who already lost to Oregon, but 10.5 pt favorite PSU.

They pick PSU upset alert every week.

Like I said before, people putting PSU on upset alert has become a parody of itself; it’s happened probably in 2/3 of our games. That ex-BYU lineman very seldom has anything good to say about PSU. That’s why it’s going to be so sweet if we take care of business next week and crash the Final Four party.

Regarding strength of schedule, I believe that PSU finished with the 30th toughest schedule, although I’m unsure about that. If that’s the case, then that would have to rank in the top 3 or 4 for toughest schedules out of the last 8 teams left.

Not defending the quality of the broadcast analysts that you referenced but would a game that's within a field goal margin be actually an upset?

In the past some teams have used being disrespected by the media as a tool to provide additional motivation.

I believe we ended the year at 32 SOS and have since played #1 and top 15 SMU. Consensus among most talking heads is that Oregon and OSU are #1 & #2 especially with GA QB out. If so, we can beat both of those teams if we play well and get some breaks.

Defense plays better and we beat Oregon in CCG. That game was very close and we moved the ball easily on them.

I really believe that OSU is going to win their bracket. How great would it be for a OSU-PSU Final? We just need to stay healthy, which depends on luck. Hopefully, we’ve reached our quota with the injuries.

I just heard today that the ND d-lineman who got hurt in the IU game is out for the season, and Beck is having season ending elbow surgery.

I guess there’s only one thing left to do then.

If it broke that way, PSU playing with Neutral Officiating Crew (vs homer b2g clown crew in reg season) a huge advantage as well.

These people are scumbag haters. Everyone else plays great teams every week except us. We played USC, UCLA, Ohio State and a lot of other solid programs in the BIG. Those three programs are normally pretty damn good.
And another thing - the sec was composed of a lot of average teams. And one of them got crushed by a BIG team.

Kinda weird to include UCLA in that statement, given that it's been 10 years since they lots fewer than 4 games in a season. I see them as more of a basketball school in terms of conference value.

It was. The same one that said BYU (his alma mater) should be ranked much higher the week before they went on to lose two games in a row. No one ever calls them out on their silly analysis.

We were on upset alert in 6 of our 12 games. Wvu, Illinois, usc, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin.

1 of 1 playoff games so far.

Had we been settled down and ready to play at the start, which we were not, as usual, and not had 5 PF along with 2 interceptions, we would probably beaten Oregon, the #1 team in the country. JF better have these guys ready on the kickoff going forward. These terrible slow starts have worked against weaker teams, but not the better ones.

Knock off the PF's which hurt us big time against the Ducks.

These kids want to play the testosterone game and it really gives us a hefty penalty. Franklin needs to stop this crap, The bigger the game, the harder to overcome. The DB's are the worst and most mouthy.

Mind boggling to me that ANYBODY cares what the talking heads have to say. They have zero impact on what happens on the field.
Opinions are like rectums.
Everybody has one.
Most of them stink.
And, with that, I wish everyone who participates on this board a very Merry Christmas!!!

lol yeah it is crazy that we have such a good path to the title game when we lost to that Tennessee team that just got eaten alive by OSU and Vanderbilt and that crappy Oklahoma.....oh wait...that wasn't us 🤔

Trevor Madich had us on his "upset alert" for the SMU game. So go ahead keep doing it. The next time Madich has a PSU compliment, will be his first.
Matich could heap praises on PSU, and he would still be awful. I often have the low-end bowl games on as background noise when working around the house and he consistently comes off as not well informed, incapable of adding entertainment value to the production, and yet completely convinced that he is the smartest guy in the room. Either he works very cheap, or he has compromising information on some important people at Disney.

We're going to get hate because of the path we got to reach the semis when the narrative is Franklin can't win big games. We have to destroy Boise then find a way to beat ND_UGa if you want anything to change.

Actually, Penn State played 2 tough opponents in which they lost both games (Ohio State and Oregon). Illinois is a 2nd tier program so I would not use that opponent as a signature win in 2024. The win on the road against USC was more impressive and noteworthy.

The only way to change the narrative that Franklin can’t win more often against the better competition is for Franklin to start beating big boy programs. Franklin should have his opportunity in the semi-finals of the playoffs after dismantling lightweight Boise State as expected.

aren't the ratings/rankings subjective to begin with? Tennessee was ranked top 10 based on their run through the SEC. They were curb stomped by Ohio State. A cynic might believe that the original Tennessee ranking was inflated based on performance against a weaker SEC competition. Someone might come to the conclusion that given the Tennessee performance the top rated SEC teams played an even weaker schedule than Penn State

Let the haters hate. Our schedule was not great but we did beat a top 25 Illinois AND a top 15 SMU, and for those SoS folks who value top 10-15 losses as well as wins our losses were to number 1 and at the time number 2 by one score. Can we lose? Sure, but I would think Ga. and Oregon are more likely to lose than us and Texas about equal to us.

I agree with this--the main thing is just Franklin is 1 and whatever (13/14) against top 5 teams so people believe we when face a team like Georgia or Texas or Oregon or Ohio State or even Notre Dame we're going to lose--only one way to change that--we need to win

But, yes, Penn State and Texas as basically the same team which is why they earned 3/4
