During the Rose Bowl, did anyone happen to catch...

It had the same smooth, Bossa Nova feel as Diana Krall's version, but I don't think it was her cover, which I love. Seen her perform it several times.

who sang the version of California Dreamin', that was played into and out of commercial break?

Was it the Diana Krall version?

Wifey loved it. She says it is Sia. Don't know who Sia is, but does the Mamas and Papas proud with that rendition, imo.

Yep, that's it. Just listened to it. It was the soundtrack for the 2015 disaster movie San Andreas.

I think your wife is correct....

Edit - note to self: In the even of a catastrophic emergency, find "The Rock" and stay close to him. He will get you out of said emergency and there will be hot chicks nearby.

Not sure who sung it, but either ESPiN paid a boat load for the rights to it, or the singer is boinking someone in the production crew. For whatever reason, they overplayed the absolute hell out of it. I guess either ESPiN wanted to get their money's worth, or someone wanted to keep the good times a rollin'. ;)

Sia is quite prolific as a "hit-maker"... Believe she wrote that annoying-but-catchy "Shine Bright Like a Diamond" hit for Rihanna... Her version is even better than the popular version

Sia is fairly popular (out West, at least). She has sang with David Guetta on a couple of songs, the most popular being Titanium.

I swear, before this thread.....never heard of her. I had heard of Rihanna, but not Sia. I do like her version of the song though.

Sia was on Saturday Night Live last summer, IIRC the same night that Trump was on. Trump even introduced her. Quite the pairing.

I watched the Krall and Sia videos -- very good. I like the original better. Caught a blurb from Michelle Phillips about how California Dreamin was written. She and John Phillips were staying in, as she described it, a fleabag hotel in Greenwich Village during the winter way back. John awakened Michelle in the middle of the night, asked her to listen to this song. He started:

All the leaves are brown
And the sky is gray
I went for a walk
On a winter day

She said, beautiful, John. He said you have to help me write this. She said, I will - tomorrow. He said please, now, you'll thank me later on.

They finished the song and Michelle Phillips earned 50% of the royalties. I assume she thanked him later -- many times.;)

She thanked him upside down, sideways, face to face, standing up, sitting down, cheek to cheek, and at least '69' other ways.

Sia is great; has a ton of hits (if you listen to Top 40) of her own and has written a bunch for others (Beyonce, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, etc.). She's been around a while but hit it big a few years ago when she featured Pittsburgh dancer and reality TV star Maddie Ziegler (from 'Dance Moms') in her video for 'Chandelier' (the two have since collaborated on a number of videos and performances, including on Sia's tour). May not be your cup of tea, but Maddie's dancing style (modern/interpretive?) is really fun to watch. Amazing expression IMO.

And more recently...'The Greatest'

It was hard to miss: They played it, in and out of every break, nearly 100 times. Might as well have put it on a loop and just played it for 4 straight hours in the background of the game. Sort of reminded me of the NBA finals that one year when they played "Let's get it started" by the Black eyed peas, the same way. Overkill.

I don't really listen to top 40 so no surprise I do not know if her. I did like her version of the song though.
