E-A-G-L-E-S Eagles!!! Birds - Dolphins Game Thread

Birds kick a FG, making it 37-31, with 1:51 left

Birds try an onside kick and it was free for a bit, but the Dolphins recover. Birds had 3 TOs left for most of the 2nd half, but used 2 of them on the last Dophins drive.

Dolphins intercept in the end zone on the last play (a Hail Mary pass).

Dolphins win, 37-31.

Crushing loss for the Eagles, in terms of their hopes of making the playoffs.

This should be a wake up call to someone. This team has been underachieving since LII. Losing to the Dolphins is an opportunity to make some hard changes.

Does it matter? The NFC East, trying to determine who is the tallest midget in the circus

Eagles need to hit the reset button this summer. Too many long I the tooth hold overs from the “glory year”.

How long of a leash does Pederson get? He caught lightning in a bottle one year and is roughly .500 the other three seasons.

I guess Frank Reich made a big difference.

Anyway, I agree with WestSide, a big rebuild looks to be in order. Need speed at WR and better secondary players.

They have now lost to the Falcons, Lions and Dolphins. Pretty safe to say they are NOT a playoff team. At this point I hope they lose out and get a decent draft pick.

I recall at the parade Doug said this is going to be the new normal. I bought it, gotta admit.
Doug took entirely too much credit for things. In the end, they got lucky and had a magic season - a clear outlier two years later.

This is Doug’s fourth season. His win totals are 7-13-9-???. Notice any anomalies? They’re lucky to win 8 this year. No way they beat Dallas with these CBs.

The endless list of excuses comes each year, but it’s a clear mediocre trend under this staff and front office.

You're rolling. I agree.

I'm fairly confident the Birds can't play any worse than they did last weekend.

Hopefully, this is the start of a great December for the Birds.

Fly Eagles Fly
I just opened this thread for fun.....saw your post, Tom and decided I didn’t need to read the rest.

to some it’s not comedy. But to someone with no dog in the Eagle’s fights, it’s gold.

It's certainly not comedy to those of us that Bleed Green. But I suspect my post, and the thread, would be amusing to non-Birds fans.

Washington has a shot at winning the division. They are on a 2 game winning streak while the rest of the division is on a 2 game losing streak. When you play in the ACC Coastal, oops I mean NFC East, anything is possible.

That is solid gold right there!

Situation with the Falcons here in Atlanta is similar. Dan Quinn took the Falcons to the SB in his 2nd year, although he lost to the Patriots. Like the Eagles, it's been downhill ever since. There have been rumblings about a coaching change being in order.

I watched some of the Browns-Steelers game this afternoon. For all the bellyaching that Steelers fans do regarding Tomlin, I must say that he does what he needs to do to keep his team in the hunt. The Steelers are in the thick of the AFC playoff picture. I will also add that the Steelers do a great job with their offensive line (including tight ends) - a great offensive line can do a lot to cover up problems. A great many teams could learn a lot from that.

Finally, seeing teams like the Eagles and Falcons does make one appreciate what Penn State and Franklin have accomplished in recent years!

The Rooneys understand the value of stability. For every coaching change resulting in an improvement, there are 1-2 that make things worse.

The tricky piece is getting the GM-coach dynamic right. Without both performing well in unison, you fail.

Sometimes you get lucky, which is what we saw in Philly in 2017. Sadly, I think your Dan Quinn comparison is right.

Doug and Co were quick to act like the smartest guys in the room after the Super Bowl win. I vividly recall the image of Howie Roseman at the Super Bowl with a look of shock on his face.

He couldn’t believe they had won. In hindsight, I think he was smart enough to realize how lucky they’d gotten in year 2 under Doug and Co.

We’re now seeing them struggle because they’re trying to stick to a plan that was pure luck. Using a roster of aging vets and counting on them for “depth” is asking for trouble 9 of 10 seasons.
