They'd have to leave the MAC, I believe, if they dropped football. I know their program has been controversial, but this move keeps them in the conference.

Here's what I read, with credit to the Detroit Free Press, and David Jesse..."Division I Football Bowl Subdivision requires schools to sponsor a minimum of 16 sports and the Mid-American Conference requires member universities to sponsor football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball."

Missouri has all of the required sports.
