Egads. "God Bless America" at World Series.

I don't mean to be unpatriotic, but why do we have to have "God Bless America" during the seventh inning stretch of ANY baseball game? I understand it in 2001, in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. But I definitely do NOT understand it now. The National Anthem before the game should be more than enough patriotic observance. What about the tradition of playing 'Take me out to the Ball Game" during the seventh inning stretch? Should that just be disregarded? This "God Bless American" thing does not occur during the regular season. I think it should be put out to pasture.

Bob: I am inferring that you agree with my post about "God Bless America." But just in case, I have (with due apologies to Tony Orlando & Dawn) devised a kind of Morse Code for us to use.

:eek::eek: means you agree with me.

Have at it...

Well, you sing the STAR SPANGLED BANNER to invoke EMOTIONS for your Country. You have flyovers and celebrate (ahem) war heroes before the game. It's especially a nice touch to have disabled Veterans come out. Then, it's much easier to enact the draft and get people to voluntarily enlist for service in the Armed Forces for future wars.

Singing GOD BLESS AMERICA inspires Americans that (ahem) God is on THEIR side. I don't really take sides, mind you.

My favorite species is the Dolphins, btw. Especially, the 1972 Dolphins.

I saw a movie promo late last night for a new movie in which humans are supposed to be only the third most intelligent species on earth. They have dolphins checking in at No. 2, did not say who No. 1 is, and the dolphins were apparently making plans to leave planet Earth. Not kidding. Damn, I wish I could remember the title of the movie.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

We have a short "A" club in our hometown, and they have been singing "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch for the last four years, dropping the usual "Take me out to the ball game". To me, a lot more people sang the "ball game" than "God Bless America".

Since the game was in Houston maybe it was motivated by the trauma of the recent hurricane. It may be just a special occurrence in recognition of the recent help provided to the victims.

My experience at baseball games is that the people love to sing. Why not do Take Me Out to the Ballgame after the seventh inning and God Bless America after the fourth inning? I think most fans would enjoy this.

Patriotic in Texas. Honor returning vets every game as well. Just be glad you don't have to hear "Deep in the Heart of Texas" ... every 7th inning like you do in Houston.

How about free crack cocaine during the 5th inning and free heroin after the 1st. I'm sure they'd enjoy that, too.

I'm O.K. with "God Bless America", but the rendition last night was bad.

Why does it even bother people on way or the other - I quick glance at the headlines seems to indicate ones concerns may be better placed elsewhere.

Guys, this thread isn't supposed to be about standing, kneeling, bending over, or any other body position. It also isn't supposed to be about whether "God Bless America" should be performed at a baseball game. The point simply was that the performance last night, at a World Series game, was poor. That's it. Not difficult.

Gonna have to youtube it. I assume it wasn't Carl Lewis bad, but the potential is drawing me in.

Maybe we can arrange for Roseanne Barr to perform it next time.
