Enjoying the Olympics?

No. The Olympics is stale. It has become the World Swimming and Gymnastics Championships. BAck in the day the networks gave us a sample of MULTIPLE sports and let the stars shine.

Today the networks have this lame plan that everyone wants to see 90 swimming events and 0 boxing, 0 wrestling, and so on.
Blah blah blah. There has been plenty of boxing, volleyball, fencing, judo, archery, basketball, tennis, rugby, cycling and weightlifting as well.

Plenty of events on plenty of channels. So quit crying.

I've always felt that there are too many events in swimming. What's the point of the different strokes? Just get in the water and swim whatever way is the fastest. You don't see track having the 100m run, the 100m backward run, 100m cartwheel & 100m military crawl.

For example, when high jumpers discovered different techniques (straddle, western roll, Fosbury flop) they didn't add another event. They did the logical thing and went with whatever allowed them to jump higher.

.

So true. The other kicker is they show Preliminary events in swimming. It is a joke. No need to show the prelims.

Since Phelps has been in the Olympics there have been about 620 medals in swimming.

Then put that skank Kerry Walsh and the swimming prelims on whatever channel and put boxing and wrestling finals on the center stage.

And where do you think the networks came up with this information? Maybe ratings? Swimming and gymnastics are the two most popular summer Olympic sports...why show other sports that few people would actually watch? We did get our share of the Chinese Only sport...oops, I mean synchronized diving.

We have become the Russians. Our athletes are all pros.

Which pro swimming not team does Michael Phelps play for? Which pro gymnastics team are our gymnasts on? All the countries are the same.

Boxing seems to be broadcast every day. Wrestling looks to be starting on Sunday and will be broadcast every day. Hard to imagine not being able to see the sports you want. Have you tried going online?

Skank? She's been married for 10 years and has 3 kids. Do you know something that others don't?
As for the channel, they are all just numbers on your TV and there is no bias. Just watch the one you want.

The networks make projections that are wrong all the time. They really don't know the ratings until AFTER the event..

The same networks did not even show the NFL championships on live TV.

What is Micheal Phelps day job? Wiki has his estimated net worth at $55 million.

USA Olympics = SEC football x 100. What happened to your "success with honor"?

Well the company I work for employed the men's U.S. Rowing team for years. They worked full time including being on the lake rowing before work in the morning. Including the winter as long as the lake was not frozen. Then they would work all day and then head to a late afternoon row and onto weights in the evening. Basically fall into bed, get up at 5 a.m. and do it all over again. These guys rowed 7 days a week. A good friend of mine is a 2 time world champion in rowing that rowed on 2 Olympic teams. SO YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO F'ING CLUE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT AS USUAL. I also met many other Olympic athletes through them that were working full time as well you dope. You either really suck at trolling or are special kind of stupid.

What did the Russian hockey team do for a living back in the 70's and 80's? How about the Russian gymnastics team? Or any of the Chinese athletes? They trained every day all day and were supported by the government? How is that any different than today's athletes?

Events are being broadcast on NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, NBC Sports, Bravo, USA and the Golf Channel. Additionally, if those don't satisfy you, go online were there are more choices,

It's all really pretty fudging simple.....watch what you want to watch, don't watch what you don't want to watch.

Did you see the documentary REd Army? Russia did not even have a team until t he mid 40s and they started from scratch.. Their players lived like dogs in 150 sq ft apartments with their families. Their luxuries were MILK and BREAD.

Micheal Phelps is worth $55 million. WHo is the pro?

And pros are allowed in the Olympics. So what's the problem?

Or he can come on here and you guys can give him his fun. I wish people wouldn't quote his garbage, it makes his posts show up for all those who have blocked him.

I really enjoyed watching the USA Men's basketball players celebrating in the stands during last night's swim competition. They were having a great time.

I enjoyed that too. However, I noticed that they were hanging with some of the swim team chicks. I can't help but wonder if a little partying went on last night on the Yacht or wherever. The fellas looked today against Australia. The first time they've looked flat in a while.
Didn't Mick tell Rocky that "...women weaken legs!"

Sixers: Don't know if you say the segment on NBC, but the Today show folks were reporting that Tinder use is BOOMING in the Olympic Village. Apparently, they distribute a ginormous number of condoms to the athletes as well. I guess hooking up is the most popular (albeit unofficial) Olympic sport. Lots of swiping right...

Ummm.... just because some guy wrote it in a piece for Atlas Obscura, doesn't change the fact that they were never considered 'sports.' Exhibitions & competitions for art that was inspired by sport were always part of de Coubertin's original Olympic vision and the original Olympic Charter includes the provision for cultural events. For example, the entries for architecture were typicallly designs for stadiums, paintings and sculptures were of athletes, etc. The scale of these exhibitions varied from one Olympiad to the next and was left up to the host country. The awarding of medals was abandoned, with one of the main reasons being that the competitors (painters, sculptors, writers, architects, etc.) were considered to be professionals, and against the amateur ideals of the Olympics. Technically, these exhibitions still continue under the IOC Cultural commission. Just google Cultural Olympiad. Each Olympiad also puts on a number of events that celebrate sport and the culture host country. For example, the 2012 London Cultural Olympiad also featured an international Shakespeare festival.
