ESPN announcer banned from calling UDub games...

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit responded the next week on College GameDay, saying that Washington “should be thanking ESPN” for wanting to broadcast their games at all, “because now your games are seen.”

The above quote from Herbstreit perfectly sums up the ESPN attitude about everything. Apparently we should all kneel toward Bristol, CT, five times a day and thank God for creating ESPN.

“Washington Huskies took one on the chin,” Jones tweeted on Sunday. “Where’s Montana?”

That's what gets you banned? That's just a little bit more than nothing.

I got to meet Mark Jones a couple years ago and he was very nice, really short. LOL.
But he can't do that. Its a bad look, IMO, but not sure its suspend worthy.

Washington DID in fact have a cupcake OOC schedule the last couple of seasons. No argument there.

But the Huskies played a legit national power last Saturday in what amounted to a road game, and lost a close game. Yet ESPN continues to throw shade. Seems like ESPN was pretty wounded by the criticism from Coach Petersen of the Huskies' continued appearances on Pac 12 at Night. That was legit criticism, in my book. Can you imagine the Lions playing a season in which EVERY game started at 5:00 PM or later?

Moreover, ESPN's sideline feature with the dude lining up actual cupcakes ("Cupcake, baby!") was well over the top. Don't recall hearing ESPN reporters flaming any SEC schools like that, even though they repeatedly schedule cupcake OOC games and play only eight (rather than nine) conference games.

Lol! Whoever was reporting on tgt side line actually put three cupcakes on the sideline to describe Washington's ooc schedule. Rutgers was cupcake#1.

ESPN can suck it. Oh and NOW they (ESPN) point out Washington's OOC schedule. What about '16 when they put them in over us? Their OOC schedule now is better than '16.

On a related note about ESPN, what is everyone's thoughts on this...

I loved his response! Who the 'f' cares what 'everyone' wants to know. He has already answered the question 100+ times, he chose who the starting QB was going to be, he doesn't have to justify his decision to anyone... no matter what they think he should tell them.

I thought Saban over reacted. Its a valid question. I can't help that it bores Saban.

My thoughts;

Saban's response was not appropriate. Maria Taylor handled it gracefully, and is looking like the better person.

Finebaum and the other ESPN clods look like morons in my opinion - they are over reacting to this, to the point where they seem to think that ESPN reporters/media in general, are exempt from being treated by others the same way they treat those people.

The only time I watch espn is when they are carrying Penn State and I have no other option. And then, I listen to Steve and Jack and mute the broadcasters and the commercials.

The insight that Steve and Jack offer is like taking a seminar class in college compared to the babble that almost all the other play by play and color announcers, and certainly every side line reporter produces.

Some of those people should return to school and get an education that qualifies them for a real productive job. That is the same thing I tell every telephone marketer that calls me.

Bud, can you share some of Jack Ham's comments -- if he made any -- about the LB play vs ASU? His insight would certainly have merit. Thanks.

I'm trying to remember if he had any. I know he was not happy with the sloppy tackling and I think both he and steve talked about Taylor's poor tackling form.
The thing I remember most is him saying that the DB's have to shove the APP St. Wr's off their routes and they weren't doing it.

directly after a game. could tell Saban was sweating heavy as humid as hell in Florida so probably a little dehydrated and mentally spent. And what he said was correct, reporters keep asking questions and looking to take a soundbite out of context and turn into a controversy. he didn't swear or be nasty, he just said stop asking the question. no issue with what he did.

You must not be much of a sports fan. I love ESPN and enjoyed watching FSU get
whipped last night.

Thanks, BBrown. I would like to hear/read what experts like Ham think of the LB play.

He was pretty nasty, staring her down and raising his voice when he said it.
You make $10 mil a year to coach a sport, you can buy a little diplomacy.
And I get it was a reaction to all the reporters asking him same question diff ways x 1000, still, bury your annoyance for a few minutes, Nick.
Also, any reporter that acquiesces to a statement like that is a shill/homer. Why else do u think he apologized and named Tua starter on Mon? To stop the questions and appease his bosses/donors.

Agree. He could have just said, "look I've answered this question repeatedly at this point...you saw who the starting QB was....they're both going to continue to get lots of snaps....etc... I don't really understand the question - you saw who the starting QB is, so what is the question you're asking me....you already have the answer to the question you asked and you didn't need me to give you the answer, all's you had to do was review the game tape.".

the world is way to sensitive if that interview rubs somebody the wrong way to the point of complaining about it.

The Hammer must have to hold his tongue so hard watching modern “tacking” at any level. He was so technically good at that skill that it must pain him to see the craptastic displays going on in front of him - Penn State, other college teams, the NFL.

And the best coach in college football today by far
I have little doubt that is true. His teams have won something like five of the last nine college football national championships. But the dude NEVER seems to be happy or content. And he seems to take it out on those around him, in addition to the media. That seems problematic, IMHO.

LOL, funny you should say that because in the 1st quarter (I think) he told Steve Jones that he didn't know what a tackle was anymore.

That may be why he is so successful- he is never satisfied. Most of us would rather be happy- he'd rather win all the time.

He was so good. Never saw him play at PSU, but started watching the NFL around 1973. I grew up watching the best weak-side backer of all time in Jack Ham. Near perfection
