ESPN has two projections...

Will not drop to Outback. Like the clowns who predict UCF in the CFP - make a note of those writers and never read a word from them again

Never had a better time at a bowl game than that day. It was amazing from start to finish. Weather was fantastic as well.

I loved it too. The subway getting to the stadium was a nightmare, but other than that great time.

I know nothing about UK, other than they were better than they have been. How do we match up with them?
What is their offense like?
I was/am hoping for UF. I have seen them and I think we match up well against them.

Defense is strong. They play pretty disciplined and make tackles as opposed to just hitting. Great running back in Benny snell but no quarterback at all. One dimensional on offense. They should not be able to score much, but I think we would have trouble moving the ball much on them, though the defense was a bit worn down by the end of the season.

Snell and their top OLB have not decided if they will play. Of course,we could have some players opt out as well? Any thoughts?

Wasn't there, but a great place for a bowl game. Hard to beat New York for entertainment value, no matter the weather.

Not thrilled at the thought of playing a basketball school. Yes, would much prefer to play UF or Miss State.

UK would bring a crowd with them.

And for people watching bowl games on NYD who have no vested interest, they're going to watch the Fiesta Bowl instead of 2nd tier Florida bowls.
who cares what other want to watch I think it matters that we get to spend new years day watching our favorite team. bowl money is already secured if no one watches the game

Mississippi State IS a football school, unlike B-Ball Kentucky. I'll overlook their bare feet and bad teeth if that's
what it takes to get a quality opponent with a pulse.

UK would present the best rushing team we have faced other than Michigan most likely. Wisconsin comparison is closer to the preseason hype Badgers vs the actual Badgers we faced. One really good WR (Bowden), a very iffy QB (seems mobile, but isn't really; not a deadly passer, but we have made guys look like NFL picks before).

Very stout defense. The Allen kid wreaks havoc. Similar to us, offense didn't stay on the field enough late in the season. Gassed the defense.

Benefited from not playing the toughest West teams (no Bama, no LSU, no Auburn). Throughly dominated Miss St, but was handled by A&M. UGA thumped them.

Final verdict would be which PSU team shows up. Our late season defense maturity coupled with Trace connecting with his Freshman trio probably means we win. If we allow Snell to gash us up the middle all day, we might not have enough firepower to keep up.

Yeah, that might be true but I prefer a crowd that can afford to buy shoes and pay for a visit to the dentist once in a while. :D

Come look me up at the bowl game and I'll let you inspect my shoes close up. We will bring 20-25000 at least to the game spending our money.

We are a run heavy offense with a mobile QB. Defense is good but can be sketchy at times. Really good tight end but we forget about him some games. You all would be about a 10 point favorite.

my biggest concern about playing a team like UK is simply getting our team to take them seriously. we could easily play with 50% effort and create an embarrassment. for UK it would be super bowl. similar to playing the Temples of the world. we gain nothing and lose everything unless we hammer them.

Exactly. Who wants to watch a noon game 3 days before? Here you can sleep in, get up and watch half dozen Honeymooners episodes on the NYD marathon and then watch PSU. and for fun that afternoon, flip around and watch Michigan lose another bowl game.

This is actually what worries me about a matchup with Kentucky. Their defense seemed to have MSU all figured out and we run the exact same offense.

Difference is that MSU’s Qb cannot pass. Literally. Great runner but absolutely not great fit for JoeMo offense. Zero pass threat.

Having seen every Penn State game and parts of almost all UK games, they're pretty equal teams. If the team is not up for UK, that is in the coaches. This season, there is really not much separation between the two.

I’m probably the only person on here rooting for that to happen, but I would be happy with either of these scenarios.

I'm with ya! My selfish preference would be Tampa because I hate the citrus stadium, and I have a free place to stay in Clearwater! I suspect it'll be the Citrus, though.

Look no further than McFarland's performance against PSU for your answer here.

Not exactly the same. Maryland was a misdirection, jet sweep threat, outside running rush attack. More speed than power. Assignments more important than grinding power.

UK, on the other hand, is a downhill power running team with probably the best power back in the country not playing for Alabama. It will be a huge test for our DTs and Johnson at MLB. A good indicator going forward of how we will stop the run next year with a fresh squad against a power running team.
