stops Ohio State on a three and out and then does the inexplicable... Comes out in a 5 receiver set (empty backfield) with NO Saquan Barkley in the backfield. Brendan Mahon is beaten badly off the whistle... Hackenberg is sacked for a five yard loss from the 8 yd line and the rest of the game was down hill from there. Penn State gave up any momentum they had gained... on a gimmick play that had disaster written all over it as soon as you saw the formation. Mark Brennan from the TOS was calling a safety on the play before the whistle (as discusses in frame by frame analysis as he diagrammed the play in still photos) as the ball was snapped. To tell you the truth... so was I.

How about spreading them out and running a draw?? Let your best player run the ball in space. Make OSU's defender tackle Saquan Barkley one on one... who has shown he can jump step anyone out of their cleats.

Saquan Barkley was gashing the OSU defense and you leave an empty BACKFIELD with no SB in the backfield. OSU's defense was licking it's chops and came up with a huge back breaking sack on a FIVE WIDE OUT formation and NO RUNNING BACK formation. OSU laid it's ears back and pulverized Christian Hackenberg and it was all down hill for PSU after that blunder of a play.

Ask Chuck Pagano how strange formation plays work out for you?? Or ask John Donovan.

I know it's not popular or recommended to check out the TOS... but please check out the diagram of the play. I DO AGREE... it's been the worse offensive play call by John Donovan or James Franklin in the Franklin area.
