Folkstyle season is right around the corner. I know that there's a few different ways to do fantasy leagues. The G has had one for ages, but I was wondering if anyone on here was interested in starting one. We could go cash or bragging rights, wouldn't matter to me. Plan a draft night. Draft say, 15 wrestlers. The logistics of it can be ironed out.

Who's in?

It always helps me, I know, especially when PSU isn't competing on a certain night or weekend. Gives me an extra incentive to watch North Carolina vs VMI, etc.

I would be interested

I am definitely in.

If we choose to make it a cash prize, what if we decided to donate all of the money to charity instead of just retaining it? I'm up for the idea of winning cash haha, but think the charity idea would be cool.

Was not expecting as much action. Dope, though. I guess I'll kinda look around online and see what kind of rules I can steal from others.

Been thinking for a few years that the ideal wrestling fantasy league (and I don't think it's been done) would be something like 10 players per league, each picking a lineup of 10 wrestlers (or 11-12, with an alternate(s) at whichever weight(s)) to account for each weight class.

The 10 players choose their team by auction, each starting with 9.9 scholarships (or to make it easier, $990), and each of the 10 auctions are conducted simultaneously. If there's demand beyond 10 players, then create multiple leagues.

Scoring could be cumulative or head to head.

There are plenty of baseball and football auction leagues to model it after, and thus there might be software to conduct the auction. Or something could be created in excel, though you'd need a neutral party to conduct it and it might be labor intensive.

Lol crop. Be happy to assist in tracking scores. Need to come up with rules. Touch base with DYoder on scout he does a great contest also.

Proposed scoring:

For duals, use individual points won at dual.
For tournaments, use individual points won at tournament.

If people are tied, how about it just goes to criteria. Who had most pins, if same, then techs, if same, then majors. If all is the same both are banned from the league and must post on Hawkeye Report for 1 year.

dheckert, who hasn't posted in several years ran a fantasy league for 2 years a few years back from this board. Scoring is a mess. I lost one weekend when my opponent had Andrew Alton the weekend of the NLO and he had I think 7 wins, with 6 of them pins. He outscored my entire team by himself by a significant margin.

Did he assign the same point total for a pin in a tournament and dual? While it seems like there will always be advantages for wrestlers in a tournament, making it based on tournament scoring would at least mitigate situations where Zain wins 5 matches by medical forfeit because his opponent is missing extremities he once had prior to their encounter.

take out tourney play.... keep it to dual meets.... make it season long.... you can take the best ~8 matches from duals... just thinking

What about if it is tourney scoring, you are capped at a certain number of points? No advancement bonus, can't score more than 6 points. That way it could eliminate the 6 pins in 7 matches thing.

I think this is on the right track. There has to be an even # of available matches per wrestler. With schedules coming out, a common # of matches that contribute to scoring can be predetermined.

Therein lies the problem. In November and December less than half of teams have a dual on each weekend. When January comes some have 1 dual on a weekend and some teams have 2 or ever more if they are at VA Duals or some other type of dual tourney. There is NEVER a week when the # of available matches per wrestler is the same or even close for that matter.

that is why you make it a season long event. At the end of the season, you can take the best results from x matches.

I agree a season long score is the best solution instead of week by week. Not as satisfying along the way maybe but with the way the wrestling season is scheduled it's the only thing that really works.

Could do week-by-week and use average score per weight, with dual scoring format for each tournament match. Adds some nuance juggling weeks off and dual vs tournament, while still normalizing the actual comparison. Would work for the dual season when some have 1 vs 2 duals in the week as well.

How do you handle injuries? Draft a few bench guys to fill in when they happen?

ummm.... create a draft/roster, create draft order, everyone drafts 2 or 3 per weight, any order but must fill out their roster. Then either: avg all 3; or 2; or choose one at each weight to represent your team at the end of the season. Team points earned at any 8 dual meets. Total for your team.
off the cuff...

That's the hard part. I'm on board to get things rolling, but the whole tallying scores could prove rough.

We have 12 that have expressed interest...

Anyone know any software/websites? Can anyone create one?
What about like, a traveling trophy? Or... Holy shit. A CHAMPIONSHIP BELT! DO WE HAVE ANY CRAFTSMAN ON HERE?
The gorgeous Land Grant Trophy may be available:

If we wanted to include tournaments we could use just the last match the wrestler wrestled to count towards scoring.

I'd like to join....sounds great!

ill keep the spreadsheet or take turns doing it if others want to share. someone could create a google doc that can be pinned up top and updated weekly

dont care about scoring, will let to others to define.

we could do the draft on consecutive days. round 1 is day 1 and so on from the 1st day of practice till rosters are filled. all could be posted on here for people to see, make comments about and provide great insight why drafting PD3 is not a good idea.

could do $20 (or whatever is agreeable) entrance fee that goes to WFL and the winner gets street cred????

also would need to consider system for pick ups/waivers....again leave that to others to define.

This site apparently allows you to build a fantasy league out of anything. I didn't look into cost or any other details, but if one of you website savvy guys wants to look into it, might be worth it, might not.......

Ditto on all counts. Any scoring system is fine with me; just let me know what it is before we draft. A donation to WFL is a great idea. Maybe as a group we can come close to fulfilling a certain someone's broken promise.
