I'm glad he's on the squad and I look forward to watching him in blue and white in upcoming years, but...
That was a great match!Funny because my wife and I were discussing this the other day, Bo's pin over MM was first on our list followed closely by Matt Ramos pin over the GOAT.
Fair enough. It’s not the match but the upside of this dude with three years at PSU I feel he has Nick Lee level grit. My son is a high school wrestler in California and that is also a factor. Winning a state title here requires maximum mental toughness. The kid has ice in his veins.I'm glad he's on the squad and I look forward to watching him in blue and white in upcoming years, but...
That match would be pretty far down my list of favorites.
Gerry Abas has turned into a great HS coach in the San Diego area. Jaden Abas is his son.I know this is sacrilege putting an Iowa Hawkeye here but after Bo’s pin of Martin this is my second favorite match of all time. I was a freshman in high school, obsessed with wrestling and had never seen the boot scoot before. I thought it was the coolest move ever. This match is absolutely incredible. Gerry Abas was so smooth and McIllravy embodied what Iowa style is SUPPOSED to be about. Forward pressure and high attach rate
I’ve seen similar when a wrestler was close to getting a tech fall. If they were working towards a pin, and it appeared that they might get the pin, they let the action continue.By rule yes but no way any referee does something like that IMO. The referee would say they forgot to signal since he went looking for the pin but he intended to award and/or video was inconclusive for if there should be backs and leave as is.
Let's not forget: Bo also retired Pin Chain. This one, I cannot recall another match like that, Bo wins the title, PSU wins the title. Martins wins, OSU wins.
And Bo sticks him.
The post-match antics rose to the occasion:My personal favorite, though, is Cenzo pinning Imar. Monumental upset and the look on Cenzo’s face right after the pin along with his teammates joyful reactions were prpriceless.
The Missouri crossed arms and frown f..ing priceless 😂The post-match antics rose to the occasion:
1. Zain hiding his water cup behind a post.
2. Nolf shoving Taylor off-balance. Taylor wasn't pushed that hard in his entire PSU career.
3. The Missouri fans next to Cenzo's parents, no-selling the win. Crossed arms, stoic or frowning ... just a little salty after their guys got pummeled by Zain and Jason.
Prescott pounding Zaputil from the top in 1991 led to a 1992 final that saw Zaputil actively avoid Prescott (stall) at all costs except for the final seconds of each period trying to steal a win. Only time I ever remember a Gable kid have a game plan that read "stall, stall, stall till the end, then try to do something."As if we don't already have 37,000 threads (possible underestimate) debating freestyle.
Zain vs Stieber in Rec Hall.
Conaway vs Graff.
One-Legged Nolf vs. Jordan.
Martin vs Penrith. Anybody else make a Gable wrestler quit in the national finals?
