23 student-athletes affected. I only saw a headline on espn U and didn’t see which sports were cut.

I think we’re going to see a lot more of this, especially from non P5 schools. If football is canceled this year it’ll be a long string of schools announcing it.

I assume they've already furloughed all the administrators they don't really need, and they don't have $4.4 million laying around in an endowment somewhere?

Goes way beyond athletics

I wonder if it's something similar to the state schools here in Pennsylvania. Many of those Mac level schools are basically like the psac here in PA. The state might be flooded with too many colleges and universities all having same offerings and therefore splitting all of the candidates.

Well, if things are that bad - unless there was just some consolidation and not really elimination - then they shouldn't have a football team, let alone a golf team.
Are you referring to Clemson or Akron? Clemson couldn't afford their Olympic sports and cut back to 17 programs years ago. Now with cutting 3, both schools will sponsor 17 programs. Up until today, Akron could afford 20 sports programs, but Clemson couldn't. I wonder where all that money went at Clemson?

In that post, I was referring to the elimination of all those colleges, not the sports.

Helluva time to propose paying amateur athletes.
Doesn't look like Akron can afford to pay much. Budgets are bloated - they can be cut. Example - I'm sure PSU bills the golf team/athletic department a ridiculous amount for use of the facilities. Why is one part of the University billing another, when it involves 15 kids walking on your golf course? When I was there, we just walked from Hamilton to the Blue and put it in the ground. We didn't even check in w/ anyone unless it was busy.

You'd be wrong. PSU bills the golf team nothing for facilities use.

Good! I know other schools that do - and they own the golf facilities like PSU. Do you know if they charge the PGM Program?

I went to UA back in the 90's. The school has been in decline for a while. Now it has to take a big cut in state funding along with everyone else. The pain is not over. I would not be shocked to see them drop their entire athletic program. Akron is not OSU. It's sports programs bring in very little if any revenue.

Out of curiosity, does PSU’s team ever practice at Toftrees, and if so, does that entity bill PSU’s athletic department for such opportunity or accommodation?

Merely asking on behalf of a friend of a friend.

We could play there and at Centre Hills back in the day within reason.

Anyone hearing rumbling again of PSAC schools being combined/closed? For example maybe combining Shippensburg and West Chester while closing Millersville. Believe there was a study done several years ago with recommendations of combining and/or closing many of the schools but was tabled. Now Covid has brought this to the front again and since there are just not enough bodies to fill classrooms/beds at the schools and a smaller general population going forward its being actively looked at again in Harrisburg. No idea if this is true but friends still living in PA are hearing this again. Also that PA is not the only state reviewing this with state university's.

Cheyney's the one you hear the most about being closed they've lost over 60% of their enrollment the last decade... The ones you mentioned above (last I knew) were some of the ones in better shape.

Edit: This quote is part of their issue; they are still banking on people not comparing true cost of attendance (sans 'scholarships') and focus only on posted tuition dollars.

“We still remain competitive. Our average cost, including tuition and room and board, is $22,412 a year, compared to an average of $36,108 a year for tuition alone at private nonprofit universities,” Pigeon added."

Probably my bad I just threw some schools out there as an example I did not mean to imply they were in dire financial straits...

If these colleges close, what becomes of the land and buildings? Quarantine spaces? Prisons?
