fc FR worse 1st rd pick for all 32 NFL teams, last 25 yrs, many PSU

Don't have to look at the list. PSU had many 1st round busts over the years. Some to injury and some to being overrated, but busts none the less. Who in their right mind would have picked Aaron Maybin
in the 1st round? Oh Buffalo, but there were other suckers getting in line.

The usual, expected suspects are listed over 20-30 years in the NFL Draft. Injuries often played into it, but a 1st round bust is still a big deal.
Funny thing is Matt Millen gets mentioned/called out and justifiably so. He really made some horrible 1st round picks over the course of
his tenure as GM for the Lions. It's amazing the ownership allowed him to remain in that capacity as long as he did IMO.

The Browns 2012 1st round is legendary.

The Browns had picks number 4 and 22 in the 1st round. They ended up with Trent Richardson and Brandon Weedon. And to get Richardson they traded a 4th, 5th and 7th round picks to move from the #4 to #3 pick.

So they had the #4 and #22 picks as well as a 4th, 5th and 7th round pick and from that they netted a total of two guys, both of which were complete flops.

Meanwhile Antonio Brown is one of the best receivers in the NFL and the Steelers drafted him in the 6th round.

I feel for the long suffering Browns fans.

To me busts are guys that can't play, not guys that got injured

this is one of the few lists I have seen that has the foucs on guys that couldn't play.

Wadsworth and Otah were guys that didn't perform due to injury but the rest are mostly right on.

interestingly 10 are QB's

Yes - but the Browns parlayed Richardson into another 1st round pick

Unfortunately it was Johnny (can't play) Football.

Typical 1st round pick for the Browns. I was hoping they were going to choose Bridgewater or Carr. But what do I know? Apparently more than the Browns front office.

I can remember the following PSU first round picks who did not make it:

Bryant Johnson (WR ) - Arizona - was overshadowed by a couple lower round picks including Boldin who was FSU QB

Michael Haynes (DE) - Bears - never caught on

Kyle Brady (TE) - Jets - I can remember the boos from the audience when he was selected. He played a few years with different teams, but never was what anyone expected.

Courtney Brown (DE) - combine hero was just not an nfl player. Browns have made a living on these type picks. I did think he would make it.

The three shocker to me were

Kijana Carter - appeared to have HR capability. I think he played about five years and just fell out of the league. I know he had some injuries first year, but I think was healthy rest of the time, but just couldn't produce at that level. saw him play in Denver game where he had an opening thought he would run away - but LB caught him from behind.

Curtis Enis - looked good briefly with Bears. did not last though.

Blair Thomas - I think around 4-5 years, but no results.

I thought at least one of them would become a big league NFL back. All three played a few years but never amounted to much.

LJ jr was another guy who I thought would be good NFL player - and he was for a brief period. It was weird, as he literally was playing so poorly when he got to KC that Dick V benched him and had him in street clothes for games. He got to play when a couple guys in front of him got hurt and the staff had no options. He did turn out to be pretty good for a couple years - so some blind coaches there. However it was not lasting and for some reason he faded into oblivion as fast as he rose.

The most successful NFL players from PSU have come in the form of later draft choices (i.e. Sean Lee, Navaro Bowman)

PSU has had some round 1 busts. Also some real head scratchers, like, why did anybody in the NFL think Bryant Johnson was a 1st round WR?

Good thing it doesn't include the 50s & 60s. The Steelers would have too

many to choose from.: Gary Glick Dick Leftridge Bob Ferguson Had some gems in the 90s as well
Huey Richardson & Jamain Stephens

Bryant Johnson played 9 years, Kyle Brady 13 years. Busts? hardly! Not "stars" for sure, but how many players last that long if they are "busts"'? That being said, there have been a number of true busts - Ennis, Haynes, Maybin. Courtney Brown and Carter were both victims of injury. If you really research you can find this, PLUS the "treatment" for such injuries in the not to distant past was less than stellar. I know this for a FACT as a personal friend of an Orthopedic surgeon for an NFL at the time. We have talked about how NFL injuries actually helped improve "surgical" technique. So, for a time these players were "pioneer" patients. Look, if your are an RB that ran a 4.5 before an injury but now you run a 4.8 ???? Was Lavar Arrington a bust? or injury related?

What kind of amazes me about the Maybin pick

Is how any NFL scout could have rated him that high when they could have literally read this message board and gotten better advice. Even die hard PSU'ers here (me included) were adamant he wasn't ready. He hadn't even started every game, sat behind Mo Evans until he got suspended and played mostly passing downs. One dimensional and undersized. Atleast he got paid.

Re: What kind of amazes me about the Maybin pick

The Eagles could probably list 32 themselves. Kevin Allen and Antoine Davis are 2 of the infamous that come to mind.
