FC: Is Locks looking to bring Gattis with him to C-PARK?

His current job at Alabama is better than an OC at Maryland. He also has a shot at being Alabama's full time OC. So in other words, he is not going to Maryland. He only leaves Bama for a head coaching job IMO.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Alabama co-offensive coordinator / wide receivers coach Josh Gattis is expected to join Mike Locksley’s staff at Maryland as offensive coordinator.

To be clear, Gattis at this time works for and is recruiting for Alabama at this time; but sources tell us the position has been offered, and Gattis is expected to accept.

Locks and Gattis have worked the ‘cruiting trails together for Bama this past year and done fairly well for themselves. In a game of Jimmies and Joes, pairing Gattis with Locksley would put other Big Ten programs on notice that the Terps are serious about locking down the DMV.

Before joining Nick Saban’s staff earlier this year, Gattis was a member of James Franklin’s staff at both Vanderbilt (2012-13) and Penn State (2014-17), and also spent a year coaching the receivers at Western Michigan. At all those stops, Gattis has developed receivers that have gone on to break school records, or capture all conference or All-American accolades working with names like Jordan White (WMU), Chris Goodwin (Penn State), Jordan Matthews (Vanderbilt) and at Alabama this year he mentored a group that had to fill some big shoes, and a number of guys stepped up big for the Tide all year long.

Sources tell us that one potential derailment of Gattis joining Locksley is if App State were to offer them their head coaching job, as we understand that the Mountaineers’ AD Doug Gillin has Gattis on his list of coaches he’s considering interviewing. Playing his college ball just 90 minutes to the East at Wake Forest, Gattis is familiar with the lay of the land at Appalachian State, something that many believe is important in the guy they tab to replace Scott Satterfield.

Final disclaimer: Gattis currently works for Nick Saban. This move only happens with Saban’s blessing. However, at this time, we understand the plan is for Gattis to wind up at Maryland unless Saban decides he has to keep him.

Great. And we're over here stuck with Mr. 4th and 5.

that was a CJF approved call.

In my business transactions are almost always approved at a higher level. That doesn't remove or reduce the responsibility of the person who brought it to the table. Of course, things are different in your world which is how you can excuse the financial nightmare that your friend visited on Cal.

Who cares? If he is foolish enough to think they are going to turn Maryland in to a winning program the joke is on him. Next thing will be a thread talking about what a world beater Shoop is. We tear our coaches apart week by week and spit on those that leave us.....until they seem to have a bit of success somewhere else....then we covet them again. It works with athletes as well.....the best players are those that are on the bench or not starting. It gets tiresome. JoMo was accused of costing SB the Heisman with his delayed handoffs and he is a 10-2 season away from a groundswell here to replace Franklin. LOL

Sandy had it at Cal, and she’s got this at PSU.

Well I dont think they decided to make that call right then and there. I think that call was made in March or April or whenever they got to finally go back and review the '17 tapes, and then probably affirmed that call doing the prep for the week for OSU. They probably said to each other, ' if we get that same look they gave us in '17 we should run it down their throats' Go back and look at the look they were given in '17, especially look at the second down play from the end zone camera, the run is wide open!! OSU plays the same exact D in '17 and '18, the only difference is, PSU in 18 puts the TE next to the OT instead of being in a spread ala '17. the LBers even flip, when the back changes positions, as the the 1 LBer has the RB man to man , and the other the QB. But the run is there, heck Purdue busts the same D for like 80 yds and a TD (they trapped the run though) But if you watch the problem is, the OL does not block the D/E stunt. Why? Who knows, it is not like OSU hadnt used it before, they did in '17 and '18. So who's fault is it they didnt block the stunt? I dont lay that one at the kids feet. I lay that fault at the feet of the HFC, because he should see that stuff, and should just ask, 'okay boys, how you gonna handle this?' Shut up and see the answer. Thats the way it supposed to work in football.
Here it is qued up for you from '17, in just about exactly the same situation....and watch these 4 plays, but be careful, every time i watch them I want to puke..

Personally I think it is foolish to think Maryland is not capable of running a winning program. Gattis recruiting against PSU in the DMV is not a favorable situation by any means.

Thing is, even if they do turn Marilyn into a winning program, they'll be off to greener pastures in no time, and Marilyn will be back to ground zero. Marilyn is a stepping stone school, not a destination job.

Durkin got a pretty good response initially with recruiting......how'd that end up? With PSU's record against Maryland if we're worried about them, we are scared of shadows.

Gattis is also mentioned as HC candidate for the App St. job, his back yard. Browns & Packers also interested in Harbaugh ( rumors fwiw )

Also hearing that Gattis is waiting on App St and I think Harbaugh would be a fool to pass up the Packers if they want him.

Keep deflecting. Unless Franklin is overruling Rahne and dictating what plays are to be called, the offense is Rahne's responsibility.

He is the king of hindsight. I wish I can find this OC that calls all of these perfect games. I wonder if Sean Payton and the OC Carmichael are the problem in NOLA after the Dallas game. I mean they only put up 10 points, idiots.

We'll disagree on that one, i believe it is a collaborative effort, and at some point it is the HFC job to know the what, how and technique used, by every position, and of every play in the playbook. Thats why they get paid the big bucks!! on that particular call CJF and RR had a discussion on what to do, they called 2 time outs to get to that play.

Hey I am the one supporting the play call!! It wasnt hindsight, I had no problem with the call ( and I have no problem with RR as OC and have said as much) , especially based on what they were doing and what they had done in 17!! The problem I have, and I have said this from day 1, is with the blocking techniques employed by PSU. We gave our kids zero chance to block that play. But there are ways to get the play blocked, and if you know anything about football you too would know that!

The orig report is nonsensical. The only Gattis leaves leaves a coordinator job at Bama will be for a HC position, and given the success Gattis has had at PSU and Bama, it could be a pretty nice HC job. App.State sounds about right.

Gattis certainly has no need to take a demontion to be Locksley's OC at Maryland. That is Maryland fantasy. Maybe if Saban were unhappy and pushing him out, but given the way Alabama's offense is playing I doubt Saban is unhappy. Gattis is a hot property from everything I read.

Of course it's a collaborative effort, but if the OC isn't leading and contributing 80-90% of the playbook and game plan, then he isn't doing his job. Shared responsibility means no responsibility or accountability. If Franklin doesn't know that, he's toast.

Oh wait, you mean you can tell where a play went wrong after the play. Thanks for that, you're great at it.

I am willing to give Rahne the benefit of the doubt this year. He inherited a 3 year starter and it was his first year as OC. Changing the system too much would have been difficult. I am still not sold on Limegrover. His unit has yet to produce anything close to elite play on a consistent basis. Franklin has a great eye for talent. If he did not think Gattis was ready for prime time I tend to trust him.

Dan Enos is hotter and my guess is that he's Bama's next OC. If Gattis has opportunities to work elsewhere, he has some decisions to make.

And you think that significantly changing the system, if that's in the cards, next year will be easier? You'll have new starter(s) who have never practiced the changes. That is not how you manage change successfully.

If Harbaugh would be a fool to pass up that gig.... what would the Packers be if they offered him the gig?

:)
He had a pretty good run in SF. I think he would have preferred to stay in the NFL......but they offered him the world at Michigan. I think he is a much better coach than many here believe.

Why does it say that it is Saban's decision whether Gattis can accept another position? What kind of power does Saban have? How could he stop someone from leaving for another position? That would be awkward if Saban said no.

The next job for Gattis will be the one he sees as a stepping stone to a HC position (if he doesn't get the App State HC). I think Md is several years away (if ever) from big success. So....

It's poorly phrased. Believe the writer meant to say that it's up to Saban to offer Gattis a combination of job/money to entice him to stay, if, indeed, it comes to that. Saban can't stop someone from leaving for another job. There is this little thing called the Thirteenth Amendment.

No your good at putting words in people’s mouth. You always have been Where the play went wrong was being unprepared for what OSU was capable of doing. They showed that capability in 17, so the question is, why was PSU unprepared? I’ll point out where things broke down. Sometimes things can’t be fixed, some guy out runs everybody on the team, no defense for that, but not being prepared for something you should know is coming is unforgivable
You do know they tape these games, right?
You go know that coaches review these tapes , right?
So knowing that you would hope they fix problems
Now go run along I am sure there is some 17 yr old twitter account you need to pour over

You're the king of hindsight and maybe you feel it makes you important around the senior center...congrats. I don't think for one second you know more than the HC or the folks on his staff, but pointing out the mistakes post snap gives you a hard on somehow. So many staffs are hiring right now, why in the hell aren't you out there with your resume in hand?

Unless he's desperate for a new job title, he'd be nuts to take that job

From what I understand, Franklin likes to let his coaches coach and not micro-manage...
